This place was alright, but honestly, after having Americano Deli, it just doesn't compare. I definitely think the quality of ingredients and the flavors at Americano is much better. Maybe it's their special sauces? Having said that, if I had never tried Americano, I would have thought this place was decent. To sum up, I think Americano Deli is much better! Have I mentioned Americano enough? :)

So good! My husband loved his sandwich but what really stole my heart is when I ordered my veggie sandwich without avocado or cheese, they lowered the price! I was just happy I could get a sandwich the way I wanted quick and efficiently! The guys behind the counter were so nice and patient. They really were spot on and worked great together. It would be cool if they had some sort of veg protein or hummus to bulk out the sandwich, but they are pretty darn huge anyway.

I've had a lot of trouble finding a good sandwich shop in the area, sandwiches in general just seemed not good enough all the time. When I discovered Mr. Pickles, though, I fell I love instantly. I've tried many things from a simple tuna on wheat, to a Padre's Pride. I've had almost half the menu so far and have yet to find a sandwich that isn't amazing. And the other great thing is that, unlike some sandwich shops, the sandwich size and proportions aren't skimpy. The sandwiches are pretty beefy and always fill me up. I definitely would suggest Mr. Pickles, even if you're just passing through.
(5)Tammy L.
Eating at Mr. Pickles is like eating at a really good Chinese restaurant. You're stuffed after a meal but starving in a few hours. AND! It tastes so good that you keep going back for more! nom nom nom... The price is definitely right for what you get.
(5)John S.
Mediocre at best. As many below me have noted, this place does not have a sanitary vibe. No offense to the dudes working there, but they seem like the kind of guys who don't wash their hands after taking a dump. This might happen at a lot of kitchens, but here you see the people making your food right in front of you. I also saw the absence of gloves/hand washing after handling money. The sandwiches are okay, not great, not bad. I know they get their bread fresh each morning because I often walk past on my way to work and see the truck. For a cheaper (and cleaner) alternative, I suggest Safeway across the street or the middle eastern shop just a few doors down from this place (past the wireless store).
(2)Rob D.
Great sandwiches, a little inconsistent but the quality and sheer sandwich quantity makes up for that. A true Peninsula original.
(4)Karen C.
"How good can a sandwich be?" you ask. Well, I will tell you: really freaking good! I owed lunch to a co-worker, and I figured we should give Mr. Pickles a try as we were in the area. He got a chicken salad sandwich on a sweet roll with everything, and I got the #15 Notre Dame sandwich on wheat bread. Dear lord, those sandwiches were amazing! Mine was so delicious I could have eaten two, easy. His got rave reviews, too. I will definitely be back!
(4)Jessica L.
This place is a man's dream come true - basically a TON of crap piled onto a sandwich. Made by other sweetBROs with care but also slowly bc they are probably high/hungover/etc. I am not being mean. They do a good job - my one complaint is the long long wait. The food is good, the sandwich combos super unique and my god would could possibly go wrong with G sauce added to anything!! G sauce = garlic spread

I was in the area a few months ago and decided to get a hair cut at 101 Barber shop. During the hair cut, I absent mindedly asked about the long line next door. "It's a sandwich shop", my barber answered. "You should try them, they are really good!" So on this Saturday after paddling, I found myself in the area again and decided to give Mr Pickles a shot. There was a long line out the door which moved slowly, and I was hungry, so I was hoping the sandwich was worth the wait. As I waited in line, I could see why this place is well loved. There were seat cushions of local high schools displayed in the window, the specialty sandwiches are named after local institution and the whole place have a neighborhood vibe about it. When it was finally my turn to order, I choose a "Hillsdale Knight": roast beef, ham, horseradish, provolone and avocado on sweet roll, with "everything". The sandwich guy cut a loaf of bread in half, then slice it open lengthwise. He then proceed to pull off some of the bread from the bottom half and place 5 slice of hams on the bread! It was topped with slightly less generous amount of roast beef. Mayo drizzled all over the meat. The sandwich is then topped with 2 slice of provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions and peppers. On the other slice of bread, a freshly cut avocado is smeared onto the bread, then drizzled with pesto. The sandwich had great meat flavor from the roast beef and ham. I also enjoyed the garlic flavor I tasted from the pesto sauce. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal, if slightly too salty for my taste. The sandwich cost $7.50, but for the size, I think it was reasonable. The meats, bread and cheese by themselves were not exceptional, but the addition of the pesto with the great garlic flavor made it a 3.5 star rather than 3 star place. However, given the long wait, I won't come back, especially when I am feeling hungry and need food in a hurry.
(3)Joe N.
I don't really know what all the hype is about. They have decent sandwiches, but nothing that I'd have to go out of my way to get. I would've given them 3.5 stars, but that's not an option. Oh well. Also, I didn't really like them making my sandwich without gloves.
(3)Matthew G.
Came here a lot in high school. Go bearcats! There's not a lot of parking but a mcdonalds is right on the corner so normally park there and hope it won't get towed. This is my fav mr pickles, better than millbrae or Belmont because they have school spirit sandwiches. Haha. Also the meat is very fresh and you can taste the quality in it. Even though im a bearcat, I don't order the bearcat sandwich. I get turkey avocado on Dutch crunch bread. Anything with avocado just tastes so much better. Anytime I want a sandwich I come here and not nasty subway. Everything is just so much better here
(5)Hellen D.
Mr. Pickles has been on my list of foodies I've been wanting to try and I stumbled upon this location as I was driving around my new location of work. I'm very happy that I work really close to a location because all the reviews I've read about how yummy this place is, it's all true! I ordered "The Saint" OH BOY was it delicious. Huge chunks of chicken. Lots of flavors. All of which melt into each other. This was not a disappointing sandwich. It was for my stomach though. I could only eat half of it! Definitely coming back to try other sandwiches. Their special sauces add deliciousness to each sandwich.
(5)David J.
Typical good Mr. Pickles style food. Really friendly staff there, every time. They work hard and get food made as quickly as possible.
(4)Ken L.
My girlfriend and I got the Julie Bird and Padre Pride, respectively. My hot sandwich was delicious, and the pesto was a nice touch. Her sandwich was cold but still good, and was a nice contrast from the gooey goodness of the avocado and cheese. Doesn't matter what you get, it'll be good. However, sandwiches are massive as neither one of us could finish. The shirts that they sell there are pretty cool as well. People who worked there were nice.
(4)Thomas O.
Very solid sandwiches! I ordered the Notre Dame (chicken salad with swiss cheese) It was very good and the name wasn't bad either, GO IRISH!!!
(4)Jonathan A.
So, this location is completely unsanitary. I can't even think about eating another sandwich from this place. The guys (a.k.a. douche bags) working here never wear gloves when they're making your sandwich, hardly ever wash their hands, and use the word "bro" in every other word of their sentences. Not to mention the fact that they touch money and then your sandwich immediately after...yummy. High five, guys! Maybe all of the above factors contribute to the flavor of these sandwiches that everyone apparently loves. Personally, I think the sandwiches here are good at best. So, if you want one of Mr. Pickle's signature "Dirty" sandwiches, come here!
(1)Nye T.
I like their sandwiches. When I order and my sandwich is almost done I crave a different one. For sure I will try the Hoggie next. I dont get it though...where is my pickle? I want a side or deep fried pickles. I also enjoy their choice in breads. There is not much to say about this deli, but its a great sandwich place. Even their basics are good. The pesto spread they put is alright.
(4)Alan W.
I used to really love the sandwiches here, but lately the quality has been hitting a downturn. The last 3-4 times I've gone here have honestly been a letdown. I used to be happy with the Julie Bird and the Hillsdale Knight sandwiches, but now I feel like there was less cream cheese and horseradish sauce respectively. They aren't bad, but I could easily find better sandwiches cheaper and closer than this spot. Maybe I'll have better luck at another franchisee's location.
(3)Monica T.
4 stars for bread 3 stars for the amount of meat and the cut 4 stars for being punctual and friendly so an average of about 3.7, so let's just round up to 4. I loved the house combo sandwich, the garlic sauce is amazing. All in all a pretty nice sandwich, still no NYC sandwich but hey I'm in Cali right?
(4)Jim C.
Was craving a sandwich on Mother's Day and had visions of a big a** sandwich from Little Lucca - but crap, they were closed that day. Came to Mr. Pickles since they were open. Had the pastrami sandwich on dutch crunch. It hit the spot but was rather ordinary. I did like their menu with ~20 specialty sandwiches with creative names like Fast Eddie, Reggie Reggie, Little Pig, and Italian Stallion. I didn't know it was a small chain all across Northern Cal and Nevada. Bottom line: It's not Little Lucca (very few places are comparable), but a decent sandwich place if you're looking for one.
(3)Jacqueline G.
I hate to say it but, in going to Ike's Place (both the one in the city and the one in Redwood Shores), it makes this place look and taste below average. The quality of the ingredients at Mr. Pickles doesn't taste that delicious. The last time I went I finally noticed how they made the Borel Bobcat. Now I know that places get busy so they need to turn out those sandwiches fast, but I was surprised that they threw the entire thing in the microwave before handing it over. I'm kind of disappointed that they only offer one kind of vegetarian sandwich. The guys working there give you very average service. They always seem to be looking at you weird, judging you almost but maybe that's because I went to high school with them. From what I hear from the other sandwich lovers that I work with, there are better sandwich places out there.
(2)Durif M.
I've tried Lorenzo's, Bonne Sante and Little Lucca, and Mr. Pickle's is as good as those other places. I had the Dutch Crunch Padre's Pride and it was magnificent. Nothing stood out compared to the other three places, but definitely 4 stars!
(4)Michelle C.
Had I not discovered Little Lucca's deli in Burlingame, I would have been MORE than pleased with Mr. Pickle's. They make an awesome deli sandwich and have friendly staff. ...But I will always choose Little Lucca's over Mr. Pickles. Their sandwiches are just better.
(4)Roger L.
Want a delicious and filling lunch? Look no further than Mr. Pickles! I've been there several times over the last month and I have to convince myself each day NOT to go back each day. Can't go wrong with the Carlmont Scot. Bacon, pastrami and cream cheese on Dutch Crunch. Yum. Yum. Yum and yum. They pile it on as if there was an unlimited amount of meat available. Keep in mind that the lunch crowd is lined up out the door every day, so if you can wait until early afternoon, you can get in and out pretty quick. Even if you end up starving by the time you get your sandwich, you'll be pretty well sated after you finish it off. The guys that work there are very friendly and extremely helpful. The menu can be quite overwhelming so just ask them for their suggestions.
(4)Jason M.
Mr. Pickles has managed to build up a great reputation and people still tend think they are great. I used to find it OK at best. It was always last on my list of places to go to for a sandwich. This particular location is god awful. The employees are a bunch of meat head punks. They constantly swear and say "Bro" a lot. The TV is always playing a baseball or football game and is always turned toward the workers so they can enjoy while they make your sandwich around the clock .. of the game. Not to mention the place is dirty and the El Camino location is anything but ideal. Go to the Millbrae location if you have to go to a Mr. Pickles. Otherwise go to Belmont for Lorenzo's or Burlingame for a few different places. Anywhere but here.
(2)Kimberly C.
YUM YUM AND YUM! You'd have to come here either before the lunch rush or after. Also, they are not opened on the weekends. This place is good. The only thing that I've ordered and will only order, because I love it so much, is the bear cat on Dutch Crunch. I LOVE dutch crunch. How do they make it like that? I have to learn. That with loads of roast beef and OMG, bbq sauce and cheddar cheese. I should only eat half but I end up hoovering the whole thing! I want to get a tshirt someday. Yes, they sell tshirts, too! The staff is always down to earth cool, too.
(5)adrianna h.
Yeah I have def started to shy away from this place... it's a tad dirty and douche bags work there. Their sandwiches have gotten significantly worse over the past year. It's a trendy place so people will tell you otherwise. It's not that this place is incredibly terrible, its just not good. Go check out Stangelini's, it's soo fresh!
(2)Tim S.
One of the best sandwhich shop on the peninsula. Each one has their special sauce and is amazing, so you really cant go wrong with any sandwich. Very nice staff too
(5)Kevin B.
I am a huge fan of sandwiches, so since I didn't have enough time to to drive all the way to my normal sandwich spot in San Carlos, so I thought I would try this spot out and "Meh..I've experienced better" is spot on! There were plenty of different sandwiches to choose from, but unfortunately I choose poorly (Sandbagger). The bread I picked was a soft roll and really didn't add much, sometimes the bread makes the sando...and sometimes it makes it fall flat. I will say this, the people working there were very nice and that in itself will make me give them another shot.
(2)Kelly J.
I grew up down the street from this sandwich shop and whenever I come back home, it's always my first stop for lunch. Bottomline: best sandwiches in the area. wonderfully friendly guys behind the counter. quick - they get you in and out fast.
(5)Juan R.
This Mr. Pickle's brings me back to high school, in the late '80's. I went to high school less than a mile from it. The best thing about this place is the great service I've always gotten here. What's cool is that I always get greeted and the sandwich makers are ready and willing to make me a great sandwich, everytime. My only criticism is that this place gets crazy busy so they must have a decent revenue stream but yet they haven't spent a lot of money to fresh the place up. Come on, Mr. Pickle, let's get some new paint at least. I would highly recommend buying a sandwich from here. Parking is challenging, but you get a great sandwich.
(5)Shawn W.
Super small and busy during lunch hours. Staff are friendly and helpful. Good list of sandwiches to choose.. Sandwiches are beefy and decent. However, I'm disappointed with my last experience. I had an uncomfortable experience with one staff member not washing his hands (Don't need to go into details)...This has only happened once in which I've noticed..However, if your in the area, give it a try. Hopefully, you get someone who takes care of you.

I ordered a sandwich today with a side of the worst customer services. How hard is it to make a sandwich? I ordered ( via phone) a vegi without the cheese but include extra veggie. A coworker picked up the order as I had no car ( today) and was in meetings. I expressed to the sandwich maker to make sure it comes with everything that is on the menu (except the cheese) as there were a few times they didn't get it right. During those few times I NEVER ASKED FOR A REFUND instead I just let them know which they added the missing items. Today the sandwich came with lettuces, tomatoes and cucumbers (the bare min) . No sprouts and no avocado, etc which are supposed to come with the Vegi sandwich. I called to let them know the sandwich is not correct and this time I want a REFUND. I asked for a refund for two reasons1) I cannot eat a dry sandwich 2) I expressed to the sandwich maker, which happened to be the manager, to make sure its according to the menu. The manager said no because I received A sandwich. He admits its not a correct sandwich and proceeded to let me know that I should be accepting to his mistake. Like I said this has happened a few times so the manager asked why is this always an issue. Why is he asking me the reasons he cannot make a correct sandwich? Then he stated his mistake is my fault . Really?? How is it a customer fault that the sandwich is incomplete? How can he screw up a Vegi (on the menu) with no cheese??? He said I was trying to scam him to get another sandwich so he needs to protect his business. WTF!! I paid for something I didn't receive. Why should a customer pay 7.00 for a sandwich that only contains the bare minimum? . Does he not understand? If he had a brain or went to school he would know how a business is really run. When the sandwich is made correctly , its a great sandwich. however too many mistakes that is no worth coming back to this location. BTW- the co-worker who picked up the order stated his sandwich was also incorrect. He said it happend to him many times in the past so today he said the order very slow to assure they may get it right. They didnt.:(
(1)Ray N.
Seriously, It's just a plain sandwich.. - Nothing to write home about - Meat, veggies and bread = meat, veggies & bread. You can't say that they're sandwiches rock cuz it's stacked differently than say, Safeway's deli counter. Had better sandwiches at home. Not coming back anytime this decade, way too much hype from the owner's friends.
(2)Yamini P.
I rarely write reviews, but have to put one down for this place. It's awesome!!! I got the turkey/avo/sprouts sandwich (can't remember the name) and it is sooo good. Definitely fills you up and in fact I debated on if I should finish the other half...and then decided to go for it. Great flavors! The guys that works there have a good banter going and it's fun to chat with them. Definitely coming back here!
(5)Chris W.
This is the runaway best sandwich shop in San Mateo. All the rest (what, all two of 'em?) are a joke by comparison. Pickle's will make just about any sandwich you can think of, with some very good ingredients. And if you're not good at thinking up tasty and unique sandwiches, you're in luck -- their menu board is *stacked* with great choices. Though, you may get stuck at the very first sandwich on the menu, and my favorite, the meatball -- that thing is the sandwich equivalent of crack, and will keep you coming back for more! The fellas working the sandwich boards are very cool. They're mellow and may seem like they're in no hurry, but they're swiftly cranking out the grub, made to order. The store is small, and fills up with just a handful of people, especially during lunch hour. Typically the line extends onto the sidewalk. Don't let that get you down -- like I said, only a few people can fit inside, and they get served quickly. It's only a problem when raining. There are two tables inside, provided just for common courtesy, I think. If you walk, you'll have no problems getting in and out. If you drive, either you have to get lucky finding a parking spot on El Camino, or ditch your car next door in the McD's parking lot. A small insider tip: if you want Pickle's to deliver, call them early in the morning with an order of $50 or more, and be within a reasonable delivery distance. Otherwise, you have to get a good friend to make a sandwich run for you.
(4)Laura K.
Nice sandwiches, took one star off because the place looked like a mess.
(4)Hema K.
Found this place after getting tired with eating lame subway sandwiches. I like this place for a huge to-go sandwich. Their pesto chicken sandwich is the best so far. Bit pricey for the sandwich they offer.
(3)Taj A.
Get the Padres Pride. Sourdough filled with turkey, avocado, bacon and cheese. Delicious! The guys that work here are super nice. I even joined in on their convo when they couldn't figure out what the name of the track that Del says " life is thrill if ya skill is developed if you ain't got a skill or trade then shut the hell up." from 1998's 3rd Eye Vision. This was playing in the background, so that wins points from me. I am starting to get over Bonne Sante in Burlingame, which is good in a different way...the Padre Pride I get here is basically like " California Dreamin" from Safeway, but warm and MUCH tastier. End Ramble.
(5)Jeanette L.
Larger variety of sandwiches and all delicious. I had the Panther which is chicken breast with ranch dressing. NOMS. Warning: Sandwiches are MASSIVE! I could only eat half of mine. I'm stoked to have the other half for dinner. Get here before the lunch rush though as it is a small shop and gets crowded VERY quickly.
(4)Jason W.
Yum...$8 for a HUGE sandwich. You can't go wrong here.. the place ain't sexy, but it more than gets the job done ;-)
(5)Sasha S.
omg.... pure NOM!!!
(5)Taylor L.
This is a San Mateo staple. One of those hidden gems that the locals know about. If you go anywhere within the vicinity of lunchtime, expect a line out the door... it really is that good. The meat and breads are always very fresh, and you can expect a cute, young guy to be making your sandwich. Their menu board has a long list of pre-conceived, certified-delicious sandwiches, but, really, the choices are endless. Mr. Pickels has a following,... cult-like almost. The lucky ones make it on the picture wall, while the rest of us settle for our frequent fix. A must-try for anyone that hasn't already.
(5)Gene A.
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. Anywho, the sandwiches that come out of this place are amazing. If you don't know what to order, you could just pick anything on the menu and you would be impressed. The sandwiches are stacked. My personal favorites were the Serra Padre and the Italian. Getting here during the lunch rush might be problematic if you're in a rush.
(5)jenny W.
Still the best Deli Sandwich I've ever had. I have them on speed dial and whenever I come visit the bay I always make sure to get my favorite sandwich. Tom Tom on french bread with no mayo, peppers, onions, with Deli mustard add extra pesto and pickles on the side. mmmmm
(5)Amy J.
Mmmm...I love the Dutch Crunch bread here. We tried the Abbott which had turkey, avocado, lettuce, and all of the usual fixings plus their trademark garlic spread. There aren't many places to sit because it's a really tiny deli but the line moves fast. The prices are pretty reasonable. It's a good place for a sandwich, especially if you're getting it to go.
(4)Hanan H.
I always heard "Mr. Pickles this, Mr. Pickles that" but you know what? Not feeling it. Maybe I'm ordering the wrong things but I don't think their sandwiches are anything great. The workers were always nice and efficient, if that counts for anything.
(2)Teja B.
Mr. Pickles waited a long time on my list to be given a rating :-), and finally the day has come. i have been frequenting this place after the closest Ikes in Redwood City moved and it was getting tough commuting for a sandwich everyday(or atleast every other day). The sandwiches are good and there is a really good variety (but not as much as Ikes does). Service is fast and the staff is friendly. Sandwich comes in decent portions and of course tasty subs. All in all a decent place for mid day sandwiches, i certainly recommend this place.
(4)marc a.
In all fairness, I had my order brought back to the office, so this review is solely for the food. I think the Mr. Pickles franchise is overshadowed by pretense and hype...and my sandwich definitely didn't live up to the name. I had the Bearcat, which is roast beef, all the veggies, melted cheddar and barbeque sauce. My first mistake was ordering on sliced sourdough. The bread was not toasted and by the time it arrived (only 15 minutes after being produced), most of it had achieved the consistency of a sponge, completely saturated in BBQ sauce. The sauce was also a bit generic, very sweet without a kick and with a very watery texture. Since the room temperature, few days old bread was soaked, the sandwich fell apart while I tried to pick it up and eat it. I paid $6.99 for this pile of slop, which came with a side of...nothing. I want to like you, Mr. Pickles, but quantity doesn't equal quality...
(2)Steve C.
Great deli. Was in and out in less than 10 min. Great service and sandwich.
(4)Sariah H.
really good. their sandwiches are really juicy.
(4)Lola T.
Name this TV show: "...and you really have got to stop finishing my..." "Sandwiches?" "No, I was going to say sentences." I grew up in San Mateo but didn't discover this place till I moved out of the city. I love their chicken sandwiches. The 16 and 18. My sister and I each get one then trade halves, then eat one for lunch and one for dinner. They are sooo filling. The mac salad convinces me its okay to get heart disease from mayonnaise its so delish.
(5)Kristina R.
I really don't understand all of the 4 and 5 star reviews here. I have tried the godfather and a custom turkey and jack and they are just so-so. They taste like any ordinary deli - no garlic spreads or special condiments. I cannot believe people actually compare this place to little lucca. While the young hip staff are pretty friendly and fast..I just don't think this place is that special. check out: G&G Italian Deli, Little Lucca, or Julie's (Brisbane)
(3)Bob G.
Lol....I'm not the only one who got the 'Bro' experience. Yea I would have to say unless you're in high school, the customer service here leaves a lot to be desired. I'm giving the 3 stars because the sandwich was good.
(3)Drew H.
A BLT can be a thing of beauty and a taste bud delight. Pale, limp and soggy bacon cannot pull off this feat. Sadly Mr. Pickles bacon fits the description above. I was not even that disappointed by the fact that my 'triple decker' only had 2 slices of bread, I think the stoned dude making the sandwich may have been slightly mathematically challenged. My girl shared half of her, far superior sandy with me (she is sweet like that) so no real worries. Just steer clear of the BLT!
(2)Jen D.
Mr. Pickle's Sandwich Shop is a local deli you have to try if you are looking for a great delicious sandwich... For about $7-8, you get a nice, piled high sandwich. Every single sandwich I've tried, I have not been disappointed. Make sure you order it with Everything on it. Their G-sauce and pesto combo is amazing, bite after bite! My mouth is water as I type this review. My favorite creation is the Carlmont Scot - pastrami, bacon, avocado & cream cheese (I opt for no cream cheese and put everything on it except for mayo) throw that on sliced rye and we have an amazing sandwich.
(4)Sasha B.
I've been yelping for a long time now and I can't believe I have waited this long to review Mr. Pickles. Growing up in the San Mateo area Mr. Pickles is a staple. If you played on a sports team in HS you probably got to enjoy Mr. Pickles more often than your average Joe because every team needed a good Mr. Pickles sandwich to rally them up before a big game (I know because we also got Mr. Pickle's delivered before a big vball game). It is very easy to miss this place because it's a tiny establishment on El Camino but once you find it you will never drive by it without waving hello or recalling the last sandwich you had from Mr. Pickles. The guys behind the counter are always nice and almost always manage to make the perfect sandwich. My last experience with Mr. Pickles was just this week. I picked up my bf from the airport and asked him what he wanted for lunch. He requested a sandwich. My face immediately lit up and I knew that the day was going to be AWESOME. Not growing up in the bay area he had no idea about Mr. Pickles or the awesomeness of it so I had to immediately educate him on delicious sandwiches. Not telling him where I was taking him I pull into the McDonald's parking lot (having come here everyone knows there is NO street parking whatsoever...McD's will do). As I park the car the bf exclains "I ask for a sandwich so you bring me to McDonald's???" I look at him sitting there not knowing that he's about to go through a life-changing experience and reply "No. You asked for a sandwich so I'm going to get you a sandwich." When we entered Mr. Pickles it all became clear. I went with my favorite Padre's Pride (chicken, bacon, avocado, everything else including pesto...or as I like to call it their secret ingredient) and he went with a Tony Soprano (meat, meat, and more meat). We took these monstrosities Mr. Pickles likes to call sandwiches and enjoyed them in Central Park. The sandwiches average out to $7 but with enough sandwich to last you two meals it's well worth it. I believe the bf is now hooked as well and will definitely be requested a trip to Mr. Pickles every time we come back to visit the folks.
(5)Derrick C.
Throughout high school, a Dutch Crunch Padre's Pride from Mr. Pickle's made my day. I made my first trip back after 5 years and it's every bit as good as I remembered it to be. The feel of the shop has lots of local flair representing every high school in the area. The guys working there always look like they're enjoying themselves. This is the go-to spot for a great sandwich.
(5)Gloria H.
It's not the best but it's pretty damn good. What else do you expect from a sandwich but bread, meat, veggie and whatever condiments it come with? Who cares if they slap it on or gently lay each slice with love?!? It's a deli sandwich! If we crave for a sandwich, this is the first place we think of in the neigborhood. The guys there are cool although I still stick with my earlier review - it makes a difference who you end up making the sandwich. Our recent visit on a Saturday was good because we beat the rush! We actually got to finish our order at one of the 2 available tables before most got their order. The soprano is always our favorite - everything on a dutch crunch please. We tried a new one - forgot what it's called but it's hot link with bbq sauce and cheese. We had expected the hot link to be whole or at best sliced at half but it was actually cut into pieces so every biteful was delicious link w/ oozing cheese and bbq sauce dripping on chin and fingers - lick!

Mr. Pickles is large and will easily feed two people depending on what you order unless you can take one down yourself like I can then one sandwich is just right. I personally only go here once and awhile due to the pure sloppiness of the sandwich. they pile on quite a bit of wet ingredients that makes for messy sandwich. I usually order the padres pride and can only get it on dutch crunch. Anytime I go for wheat or rye they recommend that I go with something else because it can be quite messy and fall apart. At lunch time this place is packed with people waiting to put in their order and people waiting for their orders. The quick workaround here is call in ahead of time and you are good to go if not plan on waiting. Also due to the wet nature of their ingredients plan on eating your sandwich right away as they tend to not be that great after a few hours, even if they are packed away nice in the refrigerator. i have tried the salads as well and they are not that good. The salad is merely the sandwich meats and ingredients put into a bowl. I was not a fan on this. Okay Sandwich not too cheap and used to be close to work

Sandwiches here are huge and great!! You have to have the pesto and garlic sauce added to your sandwich if you want the full "Mr Pickles" effect. The price is average for what you get.
(4)Brooke R.
Tiny storefront located right on the edge of El Camino. Literally a few steps from the busy street. There are a few stairs (like 4) leading up to the entrance. Inside you'll find a small room with no air conditioning. Their sandwiches are big, their menu is creative and offers a lot of sandwich options. What you get is meat, cheese and veggies sloppily laid on top of spread covering a couple pieces of bread. The ingredients do not taste fresh (or good for that matter) and the bread is on the stale side. They take forever to slap your meal together, and it doesn't take much for a line to form out onto the sidewalk.

I love Mr. Pickles. I have been going to this sandwich shop since high school and their food is always great. The bread is fresh and the meats are delicious. Also the service is great. For such a small place they are good at getting the line moving. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a yummy sandwich!
(5)Lucy C.
They make the best sandwiches ever...Only problem I have with them is they arent open late on weekdays...After work I'm not able to go there and order a sandwich..Since they close at 5 and I get off at 5:30...My favorite is their BLTA on dutch crunch bread...But the other sandwishes looking delicious also...
(5)Michael H.
The best place to get a sandwich on the peninsula. Fresh as can be, great service from the local high school kids, LOVE it! Try the tom-tom sandwich.
(5)Don L.
The San Mateo outpost of the Mr. Pickle's sandwich empire is the closest deli to our house, making it a convenient place to pop in and get lunch when we're in a hurry. Some observations: Mr. Pickle's does a lot of business so their inventory turns over quickly. This is good - their ingredients are always fresh. They like to play their radio really loud! While fun, the blaring music also makes it hard for them to hear what you're ordering. Don't be surprised if you have to repeat your order a couple times if you're not just getting a standard sandwich with everything on it. The isn't a lot of space to sit in their store and eat, so be prepared to take away (I've never actually eaten in there). I'm also glad a small business like Mr. Pickle's is able to go against the Subway-Quizno's-Togo's restaurant-industrial complex and still come out ahead.
(4)Keisuke H.
Saints...so good. I come here once a week but all the sandwiches are freakig delicious. Small place so you can't really eat inside but there's a mcdonalds near so you can sit there if it's a nice day out.
(4)Julian R.
I love this place and it is my go-to sandwich joint. The service has always been 100% awesome, always friendly and relaxed. Its the kind of place where you can relax, talk with the guys behind the counter, and they'll remember you next time. The place is definitely a "bro dawg" establishment, which is fine for me. More often than not they have Sublime playing or some forgotten 90s movie. If you go into the place looking for a nice healthy vegetarian panini you are painfully lost. You don't go to a steakhouse looking for a salad... Don't go to Mr Pickles if you don't want bacon on your sandwich. I love bacon on anything though so it rocks my socks off. The Abbott on dutch crunch is my favorite and add cranberry sauce to it to make it even better! -1 star for claustrophobic lack of seating.
(4)Anna R.
Had a delicious veg sandwich on lovely soft dutch crunch. Their secret sauce took it up a notch + Hunky sandwich makers. :-)
(4)Vivian O.
All Mr. Pickles are NOT created equal! I visited a Mr. Pickles on way home from tahoe & loved my sandwich so much been craving since...I was SO disappointed!
(1)J K.
Yum. Great sandwiches with fresh ingredients, and not at all pricey. The only catch is that there isn't much seating ~ it's really a take-out/order to-go place.
(4)Carla D.
This place is great! Fast, super friendly service and the sandwiches are terrific. They even have sandwiches named after all the local high schools.
(5)David L.
Quite simply one of the finest sandwich shops I've ever eaten at. And a large Pickle mascot at the entrance? AWESOME!
(5)Miguel E.
Ok, so i do not normally write reviews or over judge but this deli is just HORRIBLE! First of all a health inspector needs to be notified, i found this place crawling with bugs. I asked to use the rest room and to get there you have to actually walk through the back room, during my walk i encountered food just littered all over the floor, when i finally made it to the bathroom WOW what a disaster flys everywhere aprons were lying on the floor i saw cockroaches. OMG! PEOPLE please take caution if you disregard my warning. i'm not going to lie i've enjoyed sandwiches from Mr. Pickles in the past but it seems that there quality in sanwiches have gone down such as meat and produce portions and cleanliness. I will never come back! Go somewhere safe. Check out little lucca or ikes. Quality sandwiches.
(1)Steph C.
God's gift to mankind is found next to a Macdonalds.. who knew.. Best sandwich ever. Good customer service. VERY SMALL.. so take it to go.. p.s. I hate pickles..
(5)patty r.
I tried most of them in the bay area and the San Mateo Mr. Pickles is by far in my opinion, the BEST!! I love the fresh chicken breast with avocado on dutch crunch.
(4)Marcia S.
Mr Pickle's I have some questions: Why is there a picnic table the size of your shop taking up valuable line space? Why was there only one super, slow person making sandwiches for dinner? Why don't you open a bigger shop since you have lines around the corner?
(3)Uncle Fishbits Aeneas X.
Great sandwich place that has been around and consistent for decades? Great sandwich. If you are looking for food, and know how lazy and dumb it is to go to McDonald's... try it out!
(3)Spencer Y.
Small sandwich shop that caters to the working crowd. I had the Slickster with provolone on Dutch roll. It was really good! Comes with turkey and cranberry sauce. With a soda and Dirty Kettle Chips the price was under $10.
(4)Sahar N.
I have been going here since Middle School and I am 23 years old now. They make the best sandwich ever. The names of their sandwiches are pretty catchy as well.
(4)Delaine Z.
Nice, friendly service, but don't order the chicken salad, too blah.
(2)Meredith O.
Great place and they have really helped me out in a bind (11:50 am, and boss advises we need lunch for 10 in minutes.) They even deliver for orders over 5 sandwiches - Very similar to Lorenzo's in Belmont. They have a great garlic/pesto sauce. Although they could put some more meat on it. I have tried their menu selections, Padres Pride and it was very good too!
(4)Elizabeth A.
Was having a garage sale...everyone was tired and hungary. I was elected to make a food run...I was sent to Mr Pickles. Great sandwiches! Popular place but worth the line.
(3)Veronica G.
I was driving by here riding shotgun with John H. when we heard a certain fedora wearing fool pipe up from the back about how Mr. Pickles was a damn tasty, down to earth deli. John H. shot back with how Mr. Pickles sounds like the name for some creepy third rate porn. We all laughed but got the name stuck in our head and lo and behold, we ended up going there for lunch. Ok this place got 4 stars off the bat for having a staff that was obviously having a good time with the customers and each other during the busy lunch rush. Plus I like to see businesses that employ people with visible piercings and tattoos. I also dig that they have music playing (via Ipod) at a volume where you can totally understand the person you are ordering a sandwich from but it makes it near impossible to be able to hold a conversation on a cell phone without saying what every other word. Concidence? I think not. Their menu is quite impressive with plenty of combinations of meat, sauces, cheese, avocado, bacon, etc plus their standard everything includes pesto, peppers, pickles, etc. Hooray for stuff piled between chunks of bread (which of course you choose as well)! If I had taken a menu I would inform/ tease you about all the delicious combos they have to offer but I didn't so you will have to go and see the tastiness yourself. The shop itself is a tiny hole in the wall on El Camino and at lunch the line can curve around the interior of the shop and out on to the sidewalk. Not too worry the wait isn't too bad. However due to lack of eating space, I'd strongly recommend ordering your stuff to go with a place to eat in mind. The shop and the menu are definatly reflections of the local community in that there are references to Aragon and Serra everywhere (even on the menu!). So yeah, Mr. Pickles, not third rate porn, a great place to get a sandwich.
(5)Bani S.
Yelp comes through again. I checked out Mr. Pickles at lunch today after remembering that Lorenzo's is closed on Mondays. I'm gonna agree with all the other reviews and give this place 4 stars. The guys workin the counter are really cool and when I told them I was a Mr Pickles newbie they took some time to explain the crowd favorites. I got the padre pride sans mayo and was more than happy with it. The dutch crunch was great and the pesto sauce gave the sandwich a little extra flavor. Although it probably wasn't the healthiest thing on the planet to eat, it was pretty tatsty I'll definitely be going back here again. oh and by the way, its probably best to get this to-go since the shop is kinda small and has limited seating. enjoy.
(4)Rainey S.
Between the hole-in-the-wall ambience and the great sammich...this place rules! I love places where you can feel the history as you stand in line (which moves pretty quick!). First trip was the Tony Soprano...mighty good. The meat was fresh and the bread (dutch crunch) was scrumptious! Reminded me a bit of the Dragonslayer at the Pickle Barrel in Montana to be honest (which is why I got it!). Next trip...gonna try the Hang Loose! I'll let you know...but I can guarantee I get 2 meals out of the one sammich!
(5)Ben I.
Turkey and roast beef on dutch crunch. Lots of choices. Lot of good toppings. Make sure you check what everything entails. They have garlic sauce and pesto which are not normal spreads. I left off the pesto, the garlic sauce was very good.
(4)Omar N.
oh you didn't know???? your ass besta caaaaall someboooodyyyyy!!! you haven't had a sammich until you had a sammich for this joint right hurrrr! whaaa? i said right hurrr! say dat shiet again, nugga... RIGHT HURRRR!!! oh, dats wassup! located in san mateo near a Mickie Deez on El Camino Real.... small deli that got a big ol standup of a pickle character greeting you outside the door... it got a fun, friendly environment. the sammich makers are cool as hell and this place gets pretty packed during lunchtime so you KNOW their shit is BOMB! i recommend the PADRE PRIDE sandwhich for those of you newbies out there, and get it wid the DUTCH bread...ALL GOOD!!! their service is really prompt so you ain't gonna be waiting long at all. Just don't plan on eatin there, they got like, 2 tables in their compact dining area...besides, why u gonna order a sandie and chill INSIDE the deli? order your shit and enjoy it OUTSIDE so mofos can see and smell the shit you ordered and be like...."dayam! that smells hella good, where you get THAT at, mmmm...lemme see... then you're like, "at mr. pickles" then they be like, whaaaa? where that at, oh , over der? and then you be like, "YUUUUUP" and then they be like...OH DATS WASSUP!!!!" bout to go get me a Mr. PICKLES sandwhich right now. oh yeah, don't forget to take a photo of your sandie with your cel phone and FACEBOOK that shit......
(4)Rob C.
3.5 took a sandwich to go since seen this place all over a good sandwich starts with good bread, and their dutch crunch (looks like delivered) was great. had a chicken salad sandwich with everything on it took it to go, and ate it hours later--it held up pretty well (wasn't too heavy on the spreads). nice chunky taste
(3)Brian L.
Great spot. Very efficient. They have that garlic spread..Mmmm. I come by often. Plus they always have some good reggae playing or ESPN on...kind of a guy-ish feel to the place. But the sandwiches are very well made. I should know. I've been to almost every known deli in the Peninsula and many in SF as well. Just FYi, it gets pretty busy during lunch hour...but hey most good lunch spots do.
(4)Maz S.
5 stars! This is by far the BEST sandwich shop in the bay area. I was introduced to Mr. Pickle's from friends in my high school and afterward, i fell in LOVE and have continued going. Their sandwiches are of pure quality, and are completely fulfilling. Try out the dutch-crunch and ask for their special sauce as well, both so amazing. On top of that, their workers are so down to earth and fun to talk to, definitely try this sandwich shop if you are in the area.
(5)Erin B.
Definitely one of my favorite sandwich shops in the area. Mr Pickles has a lot of shops around in Cali, I thought this is the only one in the bay area (not in far East Bay). They are always reliable and have great sandwiches. The only downside....SOOOOO SMALL!!!!! Its really small in there haha so don't expect to eat your sandwich there. So take it to go!
(4)Quynh N.
I just moved here and went there for 5 sandwiches to feed the moving crew. The staff is great....reminds me of an East Coast deli. Great sandwiches! Good selection of drinks and chips too.
(5)Brian F.
This place is just the local deli that all the people love. ingredients are fresh and the sandwiches are good. It isn't that special of a place, but has a lot of sentimental value to most of its patrons.
(4)Abraham W.
I tend to have to pace myself when I'm in San Mateo or I overdose on Mr. Pickels. I typically try to limit myself to only two visits a week, but with the great sandwiches they make it can be a difficult task to accomplish. The large menu has something for everyone on it. And they are all good, I've never had a bad tomato, wilted lettuce, or anything go wrong with the hundreds of sandwiches I've eaten here. The only complaints I have are that the shop has only has a few seats and it gets too busy from noon to 1pm. But the super friendly staff works quickly to get everyone taken care of during the lunch rush. Seriously, I've never seen a friendlier group of guys.
(5)Chih Chu Z.
I like Mr. Pickle's. They have three or four people working as fast as they could make the sandwiches. Sometimes around noon, I waited about 15-20 minutes just for their sandwiches. Great service and they were very polite. My only wish is that they bring back the hotlink sandwiches, those were my favorite.
(5)Ladi Da A.
Nice tattoo boys and good deli sandwiches! Two thumbs-up. Minus 1-star because parking stinks.
(4)Michael C.
Awesome sandwiches! Anything on dutch crunch is good. Gets busy during lunch but well worth it.
(4)ali r.
I absolutely love Mr. Pickles. Maybe its the hometown hole-in-the-wall charm that gets me, or maybe its the delicious sandwiches that do it. I love that they're such San Mateo patrons. They used to have the local high schools' football jerseys, pendants, uniform skirts, etc. hanging up in the shop, but for whatever reason they were taken down. The majority of the sandwiches are names after schools around San Mateo: "Padre Pride" for Serra HS, "The Hillsdale Knight" for Hillsdale HS, "The Bearcat" for San Mateo HS, "The Abbott" for Abbott MS, "The Borel Bobcat" for- you guessed it- Borel MS, and tons more. My mom can remember going to Mr. Pickles back when she was in middle school and high school and says it hasn't changed at all. Now onto the sandwiches: They're just delicious. I mean seriously. You can choose one of their sandwiches, or create your own from the ground up. They make it very very easy to see exactly what you have to choose from and even have what "With everything" constitutes printed on the menu sign. Beyond delicious, fresh sandwiches they have all the good stuff to drink- honest tea, arizona, root beer, stewart's soda, sobe, etc. They have homemade macaroni salad, tuna salad, chips, etc. Honestly, I could write about Mr. Pickles all day, but seriously just go.
(5)Wendy V.
Yummy!!! This place is great since there are so many choices of sandwiches and they taste great. mmmm! The only issues is that they were playing very loud rap music with explicit lyrics when we visited, which is fine with us, but for others (my mom or others like her, namely), it may be a deal-breaker. Just an FYI
(4)Anna H.
The line is ALWAYS long so I know people must love the sandwiches however my opinion is the sandwiches are just okay and not AT ALL worth the wait.
(1)Kristin G.
Giant and delicious sandwiches! Love it!
(5)Chris K.
Service is slow as molasses, but that is one helluva sandwich. Go at 2:30pm when there isn't a line to get a quality sandwich at a decent price. G-sauce for the win!
(5)Esther K.
Decent sandwiches. We had the Abbott (turkey, avocado, bacon and more) and a salami w/ pepper jack, which were both ok. The Abbott only had one slice of bacon, while the salami sandwich was really skimpy on the meat and a little dry. The music was playing blazingly loud and the guys behind the counter looked like young HS/college punks - but they're completely respectful, competent and courteous. There was still a bit of a line even around 1:30pm on a Friday, but the guys working the counter were great at minimizing the wait time. We were hoping that Mr. Pickles would be our default sandwich shop. It's within walking distance to us and we've heard some great things about them, including their community involvement... unfortunately, it fell short of our expectations. We'd rate Mr. Pickle's over Sam's, under Lucca's and on par with Lorenzo's.
(3)Gina K.
the original mr. pickles!! a sandwich with a secret sauce, the novelty has not warn off.
(5)Karen R.
Sad to see that I'm not working in the area anymore as there are no Mr. Pickle's in the city but when I was around, I would frequent this place at least once a week. My usual was the chicken salad sandwich on dutch crunch w/ extra pepperoncinis. Nicely toasted and stuffed, I enjoyed this weekly goodness and never got anything else. Get here before the lunch crowd arrives because the lines could get crazy long and out the door. Phone in your order if you can which gets you right in and out. I'm sure the other sandwiches are just as delicious but I couldn't bare to order anything else. Heehee! Anyways, portions are huge and they have never disappointed my 4 years of patronage.
(5)Janice A.
This is a review strictly for the San Mateo location as I hear the locations differ in terms of taste and quality. I love this place. The sandwiches are anything but skimpy so I always come here on an empty stomach. The pesto sauce is out of this world. Service is friendly. I try to avoid ordering during noon time because this place usually has a line that extends out the door. I always customize my sandwich and order a pastrami, salami and roast beef sandwhich with provolone cheese on sourdough bread with extra pesto and tomatoes and everything else on it. Yummy.
(5)Vicki L.
I'm not a huge fan of sandwiches, but I have cravings for them occasionally and usually choose to go to Mr. Pickles when this happens. The guys behind the counter are always courteous and the sandwiches are filling and seem fresh. Even though I usually order the same thing, I like the variety of specialty sandwiches. Don't count on eating there. The place is tiny with only one or two tables.
(4)Misha T.
this place raised me during high school and i almost ended up working there, probably good that i didn't otherwise i'd weigh damn near 300 lbs cause the food is so good. anyways, the meat ball sandwhich and padre's pride are my two favorite, and just because i'm a smhs alum the bearcat is pretty tasty too if you are into bbq sauce. i forget which one has chicken, avocado and bacon but that one is solid. really all their food is, if you're not feeling like something crazy i really like their tuna sandwich also. the lines are long but they go by fast
(5)Pete C.
Nice Sandwiches, Real fresh meat and good fresh sourdough Try the No. 14 The Reggie with Peppers
(4)Jo P.
This is my favorite sandwich shop in San Mateo! My wife and I love it so much that we actually ordered 20 sandwiches for our wedding party as a pre-wedding snack... The prices are reasonable and the sandwiches are great - I've never had a bad one there... My personal favorite is the Abbot.
(5)H C.
While driving by, I noticed a line out the door. I was so distracted I nearly drove through the red light in front of me. A line out the door usually means one of two things: (1) Service is slow. (2) The place is wicked good. Here, it's both. I had to satisfy my curiosity so I stopped in. The place, first of all, is very small. It can cram about 5 waiting customers comfortably. There are also two small picnic-like tables/benches off to the left. Personally, I didn't care for the super-bassy loud-ass music coming through the speakers, competing with the football game noise on the large tv screen. Whatever. The food... I ordered the Padres Pride - gotta love all those ingredients! Diced chicken breast, bacon, avocado, jack cheese - microwaved and then dumped on the bread of your choice (mine was dutch crunch). Replete with tomatoes, lettuce, and pesto, the sandwich was ready for consumption. $6.99 (including tax). The sandwich was too large for one meal so I saved the other half for later. Still good! I highly recommend this place if you want something more than a plain deli sandwich. Plus, the place has character. Gotta love that. Note: You can call in your order (I recommend this because of the slow service). You can get delivery during limited hours. The place closes early (5 p.m.).
(4)alana g.
Good food. Good service.. but its a little cramped in there
(5)Omar T.
One of the better sandwich places I've been to. I had "The Saint" Bacon, chicken, lettuce and tomato topped with honey mustard and cheese on a wheat roll. Plus I got all the fixings except for mayo. I notice the guy that made my sandwich put some pesto spread at the bottom half . It added a little kick to it but not much. So what makes this better than Subway or Togos? For one thing, they gave me more meat and vegetables portions. There are a variety of different sandwiches to choose from. Menu options vary by location. setting: The place is a run-downed hole-in-the-wall joint, easy to miss from El Camino. Although they have a couple of table benches to lunch on inside, It's too claustrophobic. It's better to take it elsewhere. The lines get long at lunch, better to go after the rush.
(4)Tiffany D.
Came here the other day for sandwiches and they were just really bland. I was hoping it would be delicious and everything I could ever want in a sandwich but no. It won't be the same sandwich it was five years ago EVER again. Maybe focusing on quality rather than whoring the company out for franchising might be a step in the right direction. There used to be one and it was really unique, but now there are like 20. Pretty disappointing.
(1)greg s.
Mr. Sickles - We had seven people get food poisoning from Mr. Pickles. All of us had sandwiches with some kind of mayonnaise spread on it. Seven people were hugging the porcelain throne for three days and we were 100% certain that we only had Mr. Sickles food in common. We called and told them about the situation and they blew us off. You'd expect that they would have been very concerned, but they just went into denial mode. Sandwiches tasted good going down --- no so much going the other direction.
(1)Bemmy B.
Really good sandwiches! They're huge too!! Everything I've tried so far has been delicious. The only thing is, the place is so tiny that they can only cram in 2 picnic tables back to back. So definitely should get it To Go.
(4)Greg G.
Nice place as far as sandwhich places go. Its a drive from work but its worth it.Its one of the few sandwhich places that don't serve a sandwhich which is just a salad between two pieces of bread. You get your drink and your chips for a reasonable price and you are full for the rest of the day. What else can you ask for. The place is small but that was ok
(4)Ed L.
They got some killer sandwiches. Very big and meaty, named after high schools. Me being the spirited guy I am goes for the Bearcat but I have to say the Serra Padre is bomb too.
(4)Danny D.
Employing fat headed high school jocks since 1995. Actually they are quite nice and so are the sandwiches.
(4)claudia D.
I have lived in San Mateo for 2 years and have finally found a sandwich spot that I can believe in. The reuben was to die for. The quaint little shop had young and old talking sandwiches and baseball. The guys behind the counter helped my husband select just the right sandwich. We loved it!
(5)Paul L.
Aaahhh!! The Padre Pride on dutch crunch bread!! Soooo good. Being from Arizona, I could not ever find dutch crunch bread anywhere. Not nearly as good as Mr. Pickle's Deli anyways. A buddy of mine took me there and I was blown away by the high quality deli. If you're in Mateonation, please check this place out.
(4)Carl S.
Call ahead for faster service... Beyond the great food, the staff here really make this place shine. Everyone is very friendly and there's years of San Mateo history on the walls. It's a tiny place, so you'll want to get your order to go. And call ahead BEFORE the lunch rush if you don't want to wait in line.
(4)Melissa S.
This place is my IDEAL sandwich shop - I've been going here since middle school (Borel haha) so of course, I am biased towards the Borel Bobcat sandwich on dutch crunch. Best place ever. Hands down. End of story.
(5)Michelle B.
This place is Bomb Diggity! It's definitely a hole in the wall place, but there sandwiches are pretty damn good. The price is around $7/sandwich and they are huge. I'm a big eater and I usually eat half for lunch and half for my second lunch at 3pm:) I love the Abbott....avocado, bacon, turkey, and spicy ranch sauce. So good! BTW, there isn't anywhere really to sit...so get ready to eat in your car or the park across the street!
(4)Elaine S.
This is definitely the place to go to cure a hangover! Their sandwiches are huge and have delicious toppings as well as various sauces, I promise you will not be disappointed as long as you order something you are in the mood for! It's not their fault if you order a turkey sandwich and you don't like turkey...DUHHH! Padre's Pride is my favorite! The only thing that sucks is that they do not take credit cards and the prices are kinda high, but the sandwiches are huge and it's so worth it! **You can park in the McDonald's parking lot and eat on the tables outside there.
(5)Eli G.
this place is good.. nice good sandwiches. fresh and some nice combos and bread is fresh. for the price, i think the sandwhich is a littttle small, but not by far... the taste definately makes up for it though... if your looking for a little more for your money then bonne sante in burlingame or little luccas in milbrae are awesome locations with awesome gourmet sandwiches. this was my first favorite sandwich shop tho, so theres a place for it in my heart. def. check out.
(4)JG W.
MMM....the best Mr. Pickles! These guys make a kicka** sandwich everytime. Plus the Niner game is always on when i go on Sunday.
(5)Janet P.
LOVE THIS PLACE. The sandwich boys are adorable, charming and funny. The food is great and the prices are right. I normally go for the BLT or turkey with avocado on wheat. There are so many different kinds of combinations, you'd never get bored. And they offer interesting spreads like pesto. Fresh ingredients and plenty of them. I do wish they'd use leaf lettuce instead of the shredded packaged stuff, but that's being picky. They do a great job. Really nice people. Highly recommended. But it is DINK small, like one or two tables, so it's really a TO GO place. So keep that in mind.
(4)Karen C.
Good sandwiches and low prices. It's a sandwich shop, not a gourmet lunch place...
(4)Sally L.
Decent sandwiches. Overpriced. These should come with chips or fries or something... It's easy to find knife & fork lunch deals and most any restaurant that come at the same price point.
(2)Scott J.
Really great sandwich... nothing much more to say other than than.
(4)Alex L.
Wow, when did this place change owners?? I'll say I haven't been here in over a year. The owner then was a guy that was the spitting image of "Stone Cold Steve Austin" and San Mateo was the only location. I LOVE the sandwiches here!! I used to drive up from the south bay just for lunch. They're that damn good! The place is always packed so it's a great idea to get the sammich to go and walk across El Camino to the park. It's fairly large and easy to find a quiet place to enjoy your lunch al fresco.
(5)Parker W.
A co-worker introduced me to this place recently. They have a ton of ready to order sandwiches with fun names and lots of options if you want a more custom bite. Service was nice and fast. Not much seating, but it was delicious!
(5)Ryan L.
big yummy sandwich. I will go back again
(4)scott P.
This is a small chain and I have eaten at a few of them from sacramento to Los Gatos, this one seems to be the best. The Serra Padre (name after the Serra High School) is fantastic - Pesto, chicken, bacon, advocado, the works and they thoughtfully dig out the roll so you don't have a 5" high Dagwood special. Oh and they heat it up for you also. The other fine sandwiches are hot meatball , hot pastrami - you get the idea, this place rocks - Thank You very much - Mr Pickle
(5)le n.
I hate to give this place 1 star because the sandwiches are actually pretty tasty! The reason for the "Eek! Methinks not." is that, on more than one occasion, I have watched them not wash their hands nor put on gloves, open the fridge to refill their sauce bottles, ring me up at the cash register and give me change, and pick up dropped utensils off the floor... while making my sandwiches! There are usually like 3 guys there at any given time. Why not have 1 guy at the register and the other 2 change gloves between making sandwiches? I can overlook the cross-contamination of food but not the cross-contamination with the floor.

I'm surprised that folks would be disappointed with Mr. Pickles. I liked my veggi sandwich quite a bit, and the variety of breads available seemed great. I liked the sweet roll used for mine a lot. And I basically appreciate any deli that doesn't force me to have vile sourdough. The chicken breast on my friend's sandwich was plenty juicy, and she said overall it was very good. The menu includes a bunch of specialty sandwiches, many of which sounded pretty good. The sandwiches are huge, so you can easily share one with a friend, or have a second meal later on.
(4)Marjorie P.
YUM! I love the sandwiches here and the boys that make them! With Mr. Pickles huge selection it can be overwhelming when you step up to the front and they say, "what'll ya have?" They're always patient and more than accommodating when it comes to recommendations and small talk. The sandwiches are huge and the ingredients are super tasty. They could use a bigger store to accommodate their cult following, but I'm easy, and don't need a table and chairs to dig into my ham&swiss.

Yes the portions are great, yes the meat and bread taste fresh....the food and sides are all good. It's the speed of service and customer service that makes me not want to go to this location. The last couple of times my boyfriend and I went, there were about 4-5 employees however, paying more attention to the basketball game than the customers. Hey, I'm a big sports fan and love the fact that there is a TV for the customers to watch too, but pay attention you guys! When there is a line out the door, maybe us customers might want to head back home to watch the game too. The most recent experience we observed another couple (who I suppose was waiting too long in line) go next door to McDonald's instead. Loss of business...oops. Chit chatting with the customers is cool...but when you see the faces of the people standing in line sighing, frowning and basically complaining under their breathe, keep note of that. I'll probably go back again, but with low expections of service.

God Damm they are good, enough said.

He says : Mr. Pickle's is a great deli with outstanding sandwiches and great service. The wait isn't that bad however, I always call ahead now. I think their secret is their garlic pesto sauce, fresh bread, lots of meat, and large portions. "She says" loves the roast beef sandwhich. I love to eat the roast beef too as well as the hot pastrami, the belly deli and the roast beef with bbq sauce and melted cheese. Most of the time we get them w/o cheese and with the dutch crunch bread. Prices are about the same as a togos. Sure, parking isn't the best and it's not huge inside but if I wanted a full meal, I wouldn't be getting a sandwhich!!! Highly Recommended!! BTW, they've branched out all the way to Sacramento/Concord/etc. Must mean something!! She Says: I must admit, I indentify with "Joey" from FRIENDS. I love me a mean sandwich... esp fat ones with garlic/pesto sauce. And YES, Roast beef is my fave. (I have to put in as a side note that Kelly's in Belmont has the best sauce though. However, Kelly's bread has been stale and they've swapped owners here and there. ) Mr. Pickle's is great and at one point was known for having the hottest male sandwich makers around, haha. Hey, it couldn't hurt right?!
(4)Rachel M.
I probably come to this deli like 3 or 4 times a week haha. They always make my sandwich perfectly (just enough meat, mayo etc). The staff is great, very friendly. But I think its smarter to call in for take out or else your going to have to wait in the long line they usually have.
(5)mary t.
I love Mr. Pickles. The sandwiches are fabulous. The pesto pasta is pretty awesome. And the service is always great. Smiles and quick all around. The place is small, yes, and there's always a line out the door. But the wait is never that long oddly. Great place.
(5)Ed T.
Great sandwiches for the price. Haven't ordered a sandwich there that I didn't like. The portions are big enough to share. Well, in my case, the wife can finish her own, so I end up having to order my own and splitting it for two meals. The wait can be long during lunch rush, but well worth it.
(4)Daniels L.
i've been looking around the area for a deli shop with simple fresh cold-cut sandwiches. i found this place and got much much more. they have a wide selection of specialty sandwiches if you want more than a typical turkey or roast beek sandwich. the portions? big! the dutch crunch bread is fresh and soft unlike other places i've been to where the jagged hard crust will give you bleeding gums. sandwiches were delicious though.. it may take a few for you to find your niche, but they're all pretty amazing. it's run by a group of young dudes that seem to have their own loyal fan base coming in/out for sandwiches and deli meats. witnessing their interactions with local customers makes you want to be "in" with them as well. keep in mind, it's a small place designed for take-out. so dining in is not an option. it's perfect for a sunny day.. stop by, pick up a sandwich and take it over to central park on 3rd.
(5)P H.
A few colleagues usually hit this place a couple of times each week, we've probably done this for the past 9 months and have a great idea of what to expect. If anything they're consistent, large sandwiches which taste great. The staff are all very nice guys and willing to banter if you engage. Tips - call first and order (sometimes they just tell you to come on in if its quiet), don't expect to eat inside, and don't too nervous about the queues if you called your order in - just bypass everyone and go up to the register area. Recently we had a whole batch of bad sandwiches, I'm not sure if this was a new staff member or a drop in quality, I'm hoping it was just a one-off!
(4)Neha A.
Dependable, tasty, cheap, flavor full sandwiches - what more do I have to say? I used to go to Mr. Pickles everyday when I worked in San Mateo....and it never disappointed..
(4)Jared D.
Anytime I work in San Mateo I always make a special trip over to Mr pickles. The abbot on DC is a great choice. The employees are great and always give good customers service. If your a sandwich lover, definitely try this place out!
(5)Elizabeth M.
MMMMMmm. The sandwiches are great and huge. I have a weakness for hot sandwiches, and they have a great chicken, avocado something or other that is called the Burlingame Panther at the Millbrae location. As a BHS alumn, I always had a little problem with the sandwiches being named after San Mateo and Aragon mascots, but the hot boys that work there more than make up for it. Parking here isn't great, so park in the MacDonald's lot and walk over.
(4)Nick P.
Good sandwiches at decent price
(3)Jaclyn P.
Great sandwich shop, friendly workers, great service. If you are in the San Mateo area definitely check this place out. The music is a bit loud sometimes but the sandwich is worth it.
(4)Eric J.
It is fine. It can be a bit slow. The students working there are at least amusing to watch while stuck waiting. The food is pretty decent. I've never had a bad sandwich though not a particularly good one either. Of the many places I've lived, sandwiches around here just are not that good. Perhaps Mr. Pickles deserves a bit higher rating relative to its competition but I expect more out of a sandwich. I want fresh baked bread, generous portions of meat, more creative combinations, more hot sandwiches. Oh, and I like the name.
(3)Don H.
Great sandwich spot. Funky, very local, and the sandwiches are GINORMOUS. It's a good deal - you'll probably get 2 meals out of one sandwich. I strongly recommend any of the hot selections.
(4)George L.
this is one of those places, like the soup shop on that Seinfeld episode, except no attitude. Just get in line, order your sandwich and enjoy. But please... figure it out in advance so you don't hold up the line going over every option got it?
(4)D G.
If you want a real sandwich this is the place to go. I had turkey and avocado on wheat, my husband had similar with cheese on a dutch crunch. I liked mine, my husband said his was just ok. He found the dutch roll to be sweet and didn't fit with the savoryness of his sandwhich. We also had macaroni salad that was too watery. Parking sucks here - you have to park on the street if you can find a space or in the McDonalds parking lot. Not really any room to sit and eat. I like the Millbrae location better - sandwhich tastes a little better, parking, mac salad isn't so watery, and seating is easier with a couple of tables inside and outside.
(3)Jen E.
I LOVE Mr. Pickles sandwiches...but it lost a lot of it's charm and ambiance when it changed owners. I used to see the Mr. Pickles truck every morning and was always smitten by it. Now the place is cleaner, they offer more stuff (smooties?!) and the blaring music isn't so present. The sandwiches are still decent but something is missing...don't visit as often as I used to. Order the Padres Pride on dutch crunch hold the pickles and peppers - amazing!
(4)Mehh P.
LOVE MR. PICKLES!!! Our office orders from Mr. Pickles all the time. The guys there are awesome - gets the orders right, and there are some cuties working there! Definitely try the Padre Pride #13, a staple in our office - chicken breast, bacon, avocado, jack cheese on sourdough roll - I go for the pepper jack for some spice! A great alternative is the Veggie Sandwich on Dutch Crunch, but add avocado to give that sandwich some body. If ordering for delivery, try to get your order in last minute. Doing that, our sandwiches are not soggy but oh-so- yummy =)
(5)Marjie T.
i didn't realize how privileged we were just for having endless varieties of sandwich shops and mr. pickle's doesn't let down. although i prefer little lucca's, mr. pickle's still offers a mean sandwich. when i get i here, i have to get the tony soprano on dutch crunch, no onion, mayo, or tomato...extra pickles and pepperoncinis. sometimes the guys behind the counter can a be a little irritable, apparently more when you're a precise, this-is-the-way-i-like-my-sandwich type of person...which i am, but i am also a tipper and pretty nice about my requests, so hopefully this gets better.
(4)Julie D.
I love me some Mr. Pickles. I'm partial to the Turkey with jack cheese on a wheat roll, no mayo please. Today i had the Tony Soprano. (Full of italian meats and italian dressing) SOOO GOOD! I love the dirty chips, they are freaking awesome. I must say the only slightly annoying part is that there are constantly friends of the workers in there or strolling through. It is a bit annoying to be in line waiting while one of the sandwitch makers stands and chats with friends. I'll deal with that for the food though.
(4)Sean E.
Fantastic sandwiches. A little pricey. No space for eating in if someone else grabbed the table.
(4)bill w.
Although the place makes great sandwiches, the service is extremely slow. I just waited a half hour for a sandwich. The employees need to learn about efficiency. They are so slow! One guy should ring all the orders and the other guys should focus on making sandwiches. Customers have limited lunch time and can't wait a half hour just to get a sandwich from employees with an attitude. I can open a sandwich shop nearby, make a similar quality sandwich, and get people out in one-third the time.
(2)R Y.
They have good sandwiches, however, I would recommend going to little Lucas, its worth the extra 5 min driver there, their sandwiches are better and bigger, however, the line is longer too ^_^
(3)N S.
After hearing about this place from my coworkers for about a month I finally went and checked it out. Not sure what all the hype was about. Their sandwiches are a step above mediocre. I would say the line out the door is in spite of the average sandwiches. This place is within walking distance of a lot of businesses and it's small - of course the line will be out the door. Save your money and time - explore San Mateo or just hit up Safeway for a similarly priced and equally mediocre sandwich.
(3)G. S.
Mr. Pickle's kinda sounds perverted but a great sandwich shop. Been going here since high school and I have to say some of the most unique sandwiches... ever. Another small hole in the wall, it can get really busy and sometimes slow.. but so worth it. Grab and enjoy.

Yesterday was a day that I wish I had just spent in the safety of my apartment, because I had immediate feelings of road rage and thoughts of "I hate people" when I braved the streets of San Mateo. Every horrible driver seemed to be on the road, and everyone was in a huge rush. No traffic laws were being obeyed. No holiday spirit was in the air. And everyone seemed to be as moody as I was. Not a good day. But rather than isolating myself inside my cuddly apartment, I had to go to the grocery store to buy something in order to make an appetizer for a get-together that night. After braving Safeway on El Camino, I realized that all my pent up rage had made me rather hungry, and I drove the short distance to Mr. Pickle's. I ordered a sandwich with chicken, avocado, bacon, and jack cheese. The menu had a lot of choices, and I probably should have looked a little longer, but I needed food, and I needed it right that second. My sandwich was put together quickly, and was okay, but was missing something. I wouldn't order it again. My fiance had a BLT and said it was exactly what he wanted. But he also added, "you really can't f*ck up a BLT." I may come back and give this place another try, because I have a slight sandwich obsession, but I am more apt to drive down to Redwood City and go to Heimerhaus or Prima Deli.

I have been coming to Mr Pickle's since I was in high school. My best friend and I would cut out during lunch on Fridays (very against the rules at our hoity-toity college prep school) and come here for a Padre's Pride. Our picture was even on the wall for a while (until they rearranged the furniture a few years back). We won't say what years I was in high school, but suffice it to say it's been a while. I no longer live on the peninsula, but whenever I am near San Mateo I always try to make a lunch stop at Pickles. The Padre's Pride (no mayo, no onions) on a sourdough roll is my all time favorite sandwich. I've tried lots of sandwich shops, and this still is at the top of my list. The warm chicken, bacon, and jack cheese, with avocado, their famous pesto sauce and mustard really hits the spot. I always tell myself I'm only going to eat half, but then I start eating and end up finishing the whole thing. I look down at the pieces of lettuce that have fallen out and think - wow, is my stomach really that big? As I type this right now I am still stuffed from my sandwich 3+ hours ago. Maybe I shouldn't skip spin class tonight, I gotta do something to work off all those delicious calories!
(5)Bethany M.
Loved this place! I had #19 "The Saint" and it was awesome! Just be prepared to get a little messy...
(5)Randy K.
hole in the wall off El Camino next to McDonalds. I ordered a pastrimi, provolone, mustard, mayo, pickles (of course), and peppers on a dutch crunch bread. Very tasty and would definitely come back. It's really a to-go place so grab and go to a local park, back home, or your office.
(4)Michael C.
this place is garbage. it doesnt give a good name to the mr. pickles franchise...i usually go to the one in daly city...its wayyyy better. i ordered a turkey sandwich on dutch crunch with lettuce tomato, light mayo and cranberry sauce...HOW DID U MANAGE TO SCREW THAT UP! anyways... it was lunch time..1pm...there were 6 guys working behind the counter no customers...it could only mean mis management...one guy asked me 4 times if i had been helped while his buddy was already making my sandwich...i think he suffered from short term memory loss or his brain refreshed every 30 seconds...a bunch of clowns....go to safeway across the street....there is no difference in the quality
(1)eric k.
Pretty good sandwich place. Everything fresh, made there in front of you.. good selection... poor seating, not too badly priced. Something that I'd wait 15 mins in line or drive an extra 5 miles for. But definitely worth a stop by if you are there.
(3)Ashley H.
Every saturday my coworkers and I order from Mr. Pickles. They always have the order ready when they say and are always good spirited and make great sandwiches. Pablo was my favorite of the employees, he always made the best sandwiches!
(4)C D.
Had a sandwich takes out turkey and avacado on rye. Delicious! super fresh! I will go here again and again.
(5)Emily B.
Dude. I hadn't been to Pickles in like at least 5 years. Last week I went two days in a rowww! I mean, yes, I am a crazy pregnant lady- but these are GOOOOOODDD ass sandos. The only part that sucks is the line. I went at like 2 PM both times the line was out the door. I guess we know things are fresh since there is a bunch of turn over!!! and we know it's good people there is a line out the door ALLLLL the time. YUM. My new (old) favorite.
(4)selma s.
oh god yes. get the turkey bacon with the works...amazing. they put spicy ranch on it that is fantastic.
(5)Justin H.
Meatball sub with pepper jack cheese and pesto sauce? 'Nuff said.
(5)tsyonsyn l.
i decided to write a review today after making a sandwich at home. you dont really appreciate a place like Mr Pickles until you try to make a similar sandwich at home, only to have it turn out bland and unfulfilling. great place with great specialty sandwiches. sandwiches so delicious, its hard to duplicate at home.
(4)Jimmy M.
I went here for lunch today and avoided the super long lines by showing up at 1030. THe line can be 20 minutes long if you show up at like 12:15 fair warning. Either way this is one of the most consistent lunch spots in San Mateo. I have eaten here over 50 times and the Turkey Jack with pesto never lets me down. Shredded lettuce is a little weak but other than that nothing to complain about. Nice job Mr. Pickles been a fan since high school and keep coming back 10 years later.
(3)Ed H.
good sandwhiches, slow service, alright price... there's cheaper and better.... docked a star cause my last and final experience. I ask for dutch crunch bread and roast beef sandwhich... they tell me they're all out of dutch crunch and I ask really? ok what else do you have? and end up with wheat bread. The guy behind me orders dutch crunch and gets it. WTF... maybe it was just the jack hole that worked there, and he's probably not working there anymore but I still stand by my resolution to not go back to mr. pickle's... damn make that two stars! still gets me all heated...
(2)sarah k.
Mr. Pickle's: I like you. You are a nice sandwich. But I have a crush on Little Lucca. You understand, right?
(3)Jennifer P.
I love little hole-in-the-wall places like this. It is a really small place, but that is part of it's charm to me. I always get the vegi sandwich on sourdough (I don't think there is any better bread!). I think that the pesto sauce is what makes the sandwich. What's funny is that my husband has always LOVED sandwiches and would eat them every day if he could. I was never that much into sandwiches, until we found Mr. Pickles. Now I'm the one suggesting we go get sandwiches there. I am hooked! When we go we often sit on the benches outside of the McDonalds, right near Mr. Pickles, since there's no space to speak of inside the store.
(4)Carol S.
2 words: Padre's Pride. Though I loathe the name sake, I can't stay away from the sandwich. Been a fan for years.
(5)Alexandra B.
This place has been a legend with high-schoolers for years. It has great sandwiches, many named after various high schools in the area. It gets one star off for the slooowwww service, but is basically a great sandwich place. it is definitely the first thing i want when i'm hungover!
(4)Carlos D.
I drive 30 minutes just to come here. The sandwiches are to die for, seriously eat one and you feel like your in heaven. That pesto spread does the trick. My favorite has to be the the Bear Cat. If you want to know what it is go there and find out FOOL. I recommend you fax or call your order in, the lines can be out the door sometimes. Lot's of meat and cheese on these bad boys. What else can you ask for. 2 stars? Whatever, you guys are probably on that lo-carb diet, order a man sandwich. Instead of taking away the bread add bacon to any sandwich to make it a heart attack special. You only live once people. Peace.
(4)Matt N.
Well, these are yummy sandwiches, but they were yummier, bigger, and cheaper 5 years ago when I was in high school.
(3)Jen C.
in the debate, what to eat for lunch, mr pickles is a def change of pace. they have fun names based on local high schools for sandwhiches. the staff is friendly and funny. sandwhichs are huge so you can def. share. i don't come here all the time but don't mind once in a while.
(3)n g.
I love this place! The sandwich's are delicious and huge. Try the chicken ranch sandwich, that's what I always get. mMmm my mouths watering right now thinking about it! When the line is always out the door, you know its good!
(5)Kevin S.
I was hoping for a good sammich place but I was sorely disappointed. The ham and the turkey are both pretty blah. The bread is nothing special. Bad, pounding music is pouring out of the speakers. Still no great sandwich place in San Mateo, at least that I've found.
(2)Ron G.
If you are a carnivore and famished, get a sandwich here. They are a little heavy handed all around, but you can't beat the bucks to munchies ratio!
(3)Oksana T.
This place got me bored pretty quickly. Its a very small sandwich shop that is ran by local high grads and students. Always a long line with an interesting variety of characters. I still can't get the point as to why there is such a long line. Did I say it was small?
(2)Joe R.
Contrary to the other reviewers, I quite like Mr. Pickles. Good sandwiches, inconvenient location.
(4)Jesse M.
Meatball Sandwich thats all I gotta say.
(3)Jeremy W.
The only thing I don't like about this place is that it's too small. Besides that..this place makes IMO some of the best sandwiches for the price you get it at. You typically go into a sandwich shop and they usually give you a thin layer of meat. Mr. Pickles will provide you with so much meat you will NOT be disappointed. The staff here is also pretty friendly and will not be shady about it if you ask for more ingredients of some sort (not that you will need it). If I had to give them any advice though, it would have to be move to a bigger place.
(4)Joel P.
this place is hellaaa good the food is great!!! but the only downside is that its kinda expensive ... but its hella good!!
(4)Billy W.
As far as the food goes.....5 stars is more than fair....HOWEVER........I go to Mr.Pickles for a great sandwich, not to chill wit da homies.Where do they get their employees? Juvenile Hall weekend furlough? If you like being sized up by some straight up g-money loc'd out playa suburban gang bangers, then this is the place to go! Too much testosterone for such a little shop, and too much foul language. It's like getting a great sandwich in the chow hall at San Quentin.
(3)Mabelle A.
yummy. usually a line unless you go a bit earlier or later. but you can call ahead which is very nice.
(5)Sandy T.
Love love love Mr Pickles. My kids would eat it every day if they could. Love Padres Pride!!! We've been a regular for over a decade. The guys who work there are sociable and friendly and remember our order. They never disappoint. Come on down and get a bite. It's not the same at the any other Mr Pickles. But to be fair I have to rate it a 3. Why a 3? Where are the rolls? Whose heard of sandwich shop that runs out of bread rolls. Ever since the owner change, they seemed to have cut down on their bread order. I love the place and have been loyal customer but if they don't have enough rolls to last the day, I'm going to have to take my business to the Sandwich Shop. Hopefully this will never happen if the owner would just increase their bread rolls qty.
(3)Kevin T.
Great sandwiches! Awesome staff who really takes pride in what they do. I've been here several times and have always gotten a delicious, quality sandwich. Due to the busy street, parking can be a bit tricky and the restaurant itself is very small inside. Great for "to-go" sandwiches. Pro: Great sandwiches and good staff Cons: location, parking and small restaurant
(4)Sparkely K.
Wow! This is one of those places I had been meaning to go but never did. So glad I finally stopped in. I tried the Soprano and it is a huge, tasty sammie. Tons of everything. If you go at lunch be prepared to get in line - a line that goes well out the door!
(4)C S.
Good old fashioned sandwich shop! Roast beef with everything, G Sauce and Pesto was off the hook. Love the chewy sourdough roll. My girl was a little upset because she wanted mayo & cheese, didn't want pesto, they got it backwards, no mayo or cheese but gave her pesto, make sure they hear you right.
(5)Steve L.
I've passed by this place so many times over the years since I've been living in San Mateo. Especially around lunch time, there's always a line going out the door of this shop, and I've wondered why this place is so popular. For whatever reason, I never stepped inside this place, even to look at their menu. With my daughter now going to middle school, Mr. Pickles is nearby, and now I have found opportunities to check this place out. I like that this place opens at 8AM, so anyone can buy sandwiches before they head to work or school. With a couple of tables and benches inside, this place is pretty small. Behind the counter, there's a large menu posted listing their specialty sandwiches. A lot of the sandwiches listed make reference to many of the local high schools in San Mateo. If the specialty sandwiches don't pique your interest, or make you salivate, you can also request your own combo. During the course of a week, I made a couple of stops here after dropping off my daughter, and before heading to work. On my first stop, I ordered a Tony Soprano: salami, mortadella, ham, provolone, Italian dressing on sourdough hard roll ( yelp.com/biz_photos/fhDS… ). A sizable sandwich, with pickles, lettuce, and tomatoes. Pretty tasty too, with the fresh sourdough roll, which adds a nice tangy bite with the meat. On my 2nd visit, I ordered the House Combo: turkey, salami, ham and pepper jack (substituted for American cheese), and again on a sourdough roll ( yelp.com/biz_photos/fhDS… ). Also a good, hearty sandwich. Overall, the sandwiches I tried were pretty good. My new go-to place if I want to pick up a sandwich before heading to work.
(4)Alycia N.
We stopped by Mr. Pickles as we were moving into the neighborhood. We wanted something substantial, quick and close. Mr. Pickles was just that. It is a small deli with a few seats inside. The line is typically out the door. They have a large variety of sandwiches plus all the 'regulars' that you can add extras to for $1. I got a turkey on wheat and added the extras. The addition of peppers and garlic and pesto was really good on the turkey. I didn't eat the bread and was completely full b/c of all the fillings. I also got a chicken breast side salad, but I didn't even eat it b/c I was full from the insides of the sandwich. I am sure that we will be frequenting Mr. Pickles often now that we are in the neighborhood.
(5)Tara T.
Sandwiches on their own would make this place a 4 1/2 star type of joint, but I had some snippy service today. The staff has been very friendly in the past, but I had a disappointing experience. After saying the type of sandwich that I would like to order, the employee turned his back and asked me a few questions while the TV boomed in the background. I could barely hear him, but he had apparently asked me what type of bread I would like - I didn't respond because I didn't hear him ask a question. He said "O, so you don't want bread"? I apologized profusely saying that I didn't know that he had asked me a question- to which he looked at me, then ignored me, and continued making the sandwich. I don't mind having the TV on, or a miscommunication- but I do mind when an employee is needlessly rude to a customer. The employee that rang me up was very friendly- and I hope that he would have spoken to his coworker after I left. Don't let that Gordon Ramsey on TV go to your head.
(3)Ted S.
Sandwiches are awesome, so is the customer service. KC is very nice and helpful.
(5)Victor G.
GARBAGE! Ordered 2 signature sandwiches to get them home to find out they had almost nothing on them! It was like they put 2 pieces of meat and 1 piece of cheese surrounded by a roll that should have had 5 times as much! This place is a joke run by kids that are clueless. Do yourself a favor an go to Little Luca's instead, even Which Wich is better!
(1)Kyla M.
I really love mr pickles but I don't understand why they don't write down your order anymore!! I'd much rather wait while they do that than have to repeat what veggies I do or don't want 5 times and have them still get it wrong!! Half the time the workers are chatting with each other and not paying attention- if the orders were written down then I wouldn't mind the endless chatter! Sandwiches are always good, but even better when they get the order correct!
(3)Alan B.
Parking is tricky for this locale. Perhaps u can park at the Mckee deez next dizoor. I found this place while developing an appetite before finding Talbots Cyclery store. I ordered a roast beef swich. However, it was supposed to be "Kiss my mofo angus".. but they were out of shroomies. It's all good, because the roast beef kicks ass already. The services was not to bad. They are quick to make the swich. You wait for your order and tell em what you got and they ring you up. A badda bing a badda boom. Now lets talk about the swich. It's a super good roast beefer. I wasn't expecting the meat to be of such seriously high quality. it has a tender salty roast beefy flavor that shoryukens your tastebuds. and then they get up again and want to go for round 4. yummer yummy yummmoo. it really satisfied my appetite. The meat, the bread, the veggies, all of it is good. Like i want one right now and its past midnight lol..
(4)Stephen C.
#9 The Abbott - the spicy baja sauce kicks this delicious sandwich in to overdrive! This is exactly what I want from a sandwich joint: fast and friendly service, unique menu, and a big ol' honkin' sub to prep me for my inevitable food coma. Come hungry.
(5)Stephanie L.
1. I love this place SD desperately needs to get Dutch Crunch bread in their delis. It's so flippin' good..dense bread and slightly sweet. I always get it with turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions and cranberry sauce. So good that I always go here at least twice when I visit San Mateo. Tons of sandwich selections and toppings and huge serving sizes. 2. Am I the only one who thinks the sandwich making boys here are attractive? Cause that would be the second reason I visit this place. Dear Sandwich Boy, Your smile made me weak in the knees. Sincerely, Please come visit me in SD PS..don't forget to bring the Dutch Crunch Bread when you visit.

Oh, this is a pretty good sandwich shop indeed! Not that I'd ever stray from my beloved Ike's but when you're starving, the traffic is backed up from ways on the 101 and the weather is miserable, an excursion to Mr. Pickle's will certainly do. I'd been hearing so many things about Little Lucca's and Mr. Pickles from all the people eyeballing my Kryptonite sandwich and of course I couldn't talk some potential smack about the competition without trying it first. So I'm sitting on the carpet at work trying to do a little artwork and down drops a huge white sack with such a heavy weight right into my lap. "What's this?" I ask. "Just try it," replies my co-worker. "No, seriously, what is it?" I further inquire. "A number 9." I could see this conversation was going to go nowhere so while still sitting on the carpet, I opened up the monstrosity known as the number 9 and was pleasantly surprised at what awaited me. There had to have been a half pound of turkey, then a couple strips of avocado and little flecks of jalapeno sauce, tomatoes and lettuce just bursting from between two pieces of white bread. And surprisingly enough, it was soggy, it didn't separate quickly and it wasn't that messy to eat. I'm definitely in love with this spicy jalapeno sauce. It's not thick like mayonnaise, it's not and drippy like vinaigrette and it's got the consistency and thickness of relish but without that sweet and tart taste. I can schmear that stuff on everything I eat if only they'd sell it in a jar. It haunts my dreams, it does and I could see how this place is a local institution.

Delicious, large sammiches for $7.99 (their signature ones). I always get #3 which is their version of an Italian. They give generous slices of meat and instead of mayo use pesto which is scrumptious! I agree with another reviewer that they always run out of rolls...I came in at 2 pm on a weekday and they ran out of sourdough rolls... I didn't give it 5 stars although their product deserves so, because the staff don't seem to treat me as nicely as other reviewers rave about. They always act like they want to get you in and out, don't smile or say hi, and are just sort of cold. I see them joking and laughing with each other behind the counter but never smile at me and it's not like I have a bitchy relaxed face. Also, they can be slow at making sammiches causing a long wait and line to go out the door. Seems like place is run by a bunch of teenagers with no supervision so I can see why they move at a snail's pace. One time line was out the door, only had 1 sammich maker and 3 other staff milling about...it was frustrating and another customer behind me vocalized this to the staff but no one cared and the girl making her sammich got snarky with the customer. I only come here for the food and sort of dread dealing with the staff.

I love mr pickles. Their Dutch Crunch bread is the best and always fresh. Their sandwiches are stacked and always fresh. The customer service at this location is the BEST! Always come here when I want a quality sandwich close to home.
(5)K S.
Sandwiches good. Customer service? AWFUL!!! I was appalled at how the 3 guys working here treated the customers before me and myself. Just total disregard. People are waiting in line and they're all paused to watch the tv that's on?? They then have the audacity to treat customers as if they're interrupting them with their business? I will never give them my business. There are many other local deli's with a better attitude and great sandwiches.

The other day my coworker asked me "do you want half of my mr. pickle's sandwich?" I thought it was cute that he named his sandwich mr. pickles. When I asked him about it, he laughed at me and told me it was the name of the sandwich shop. You can laugh all you want, I still got half a sandwich for free. 2 weeks later I went in search of this Mr. Pickles. Open by some guys who instead of running amuck and getting into mischief - decided to make sandwiches. My type of people. Or maybe this funds their extracurricular activities ... Anyway - we waited outside for a LONG time to place our orders. So long in fact that 1 in our group got so hungry from waiting, she went to McDonald's next door and ordered fries and a drink. We hadn't moved much in line during her 10 minute digression. Also not the type of place to order 3 extra sandwiches for your office mates ... luckily the portions are generous so you could share! Bottom line: The sandwiches were good ... and it was nice not to see a sweaty, pimply, disgruntled (Subway) employee make my food. But the wait was long and next time I have that much time, it'll be a sit down meal for me.

Honestly, I don't know why people rave about this place so much. I would rate it 2.5 stars if I could. This is how I go about rating a sandwich shop. 1. Is the combination of ingredients plus the sauce so delicious that you want to eat more? If the answer is yes: go to question 2. If the answer is no: not a good shop. 2. Is the bread so tough that I feel my teeth is going to get ripped from their sockets? If the answer is yes: No, this place definitely isn't a good shop. If the answer is no: Yes, this place is definitely the bomb. This place was a Yes for question 1 and a Yes for question 2. I wanted dutch crunch and they were out, so I settled for sourdough. Maybe it was too late in the day (430pm), but the bread was very tough. I got the Abbott, (avocado, bacon, baja sauce, onion, turkey & tomato + cheese). Everything between the two pieces of bread was good though. Bottomline: The bread makes or breaks the sandwich. Very tough bread but everything else was good.
(3)Shereen R.
Yeah, I'm a fan. There's a wide variety of sammiches here, you're bound to find something you like. Below is a list of some tried & true picks: - Carlmont Scot - pastrami, bacon, avocado & cream cheese - Sandbagger - chicken breast, Frank's red hot, melted jack & bleu cheese dressing (get it on the side, unless you like juices dripping down your face.. hmm..) - Maxine - hot pastrami, thousand, sauerkraut & swiss cheese - Padre Pride - chicken breast, bacon, avocado & jack cheese I typically order my sammiches with "everything", which includes their signature G-sauce, and on dutch crunch. The pesto pasta is flavorful and not oily. The line can get ridiculously long, so plan accordingly. Barely any seating inside and street parking can be sparse. I'd call in ahead of time or visit outside of their lunch rush hour.
(4)Matt W.
If you want a fantastic sandwich, you HAVE to stop by mr. pickles! Been a loyal customer for 6 years now and I honestly crave their sandwiches. I will drive out of my way just to get my hands on one of these bad boys. It's a small shop, so it's not really somewhere to sit down and eat, but screw it, when it tastes this good, it doesn't matter where you eat it!! Sandwich recommendation: padres pride on sourdough roll.
(5)Sonia J.
My boyfriend's family lives in San Mateo and his younger brother is always telling me about how amazing this sandwich spot. Finally, one afternoon, I decided to give it a try. I "made my own" sandwich. Their Dutch Crunch is amazing quality and I love how generous they are with their ingredient! My sandwich had extra turkey, pepper jack, banana peppers and cucumbers - just the way I like it! I deducted 1 star because of their service. Their employees consist of high school kids who would rather be gossiping or ignoring their customers. And also parking is difficult. I had to park across the street from the McDonalds parking lot.
(4)Jacqueline C.
Yay just had Mr.Pickles for lunch! The taste is still lingering on my tongue lol. Ordered the Padre Pride for $7.99 (chicken, bacon, avocado on sourdough) with everything and hot sauce. This is still my favorite sandwich shop because of the neighborhood vibe and how nicely put together the sandwich is. Their bread is always fresh and soft so you don't dislocate your jaw trying to bite into it. The pesto sauce (aka "G sauce") is amazing and their ingredients are always fresh! Workers are kinda cute too, just sayin.
(5)Kash-money K.
Something Easy, Something Good An excellent "Go To" sandwich place. The guys are nice and work quickly, but that adds a bit of pressure to the customer if your order is complicated. I always wonder if they overcharged me as I'm walking away (maybe because they seem to be rushing). Trust must be earned and after a few more trips, I'm sure they'll have mine. The food is awesome. Garlic sauce baby!!
(4)Dennis L.
Twice a week, I need to make it out to San Mateo. Twice a week, I think about having lunch at Mr. Pickles. It's just off the 92 El Camino exit and though there can be a line sometimes, it moves quickly. The best part of every sandwich is the special garlic sauce/spread that comes with it. They have an extensive list of sandwiches to choose from so I just keep trying a new one until I have to start over. I overhead them talking about a secret menu also so if you're in the know you can order from that. Otherwise, the workers are super chill and try to strike up casual conversation when they're not too busy. Favorites: Padre Pride - chicken breast, bacon, avocado & jack cheese on sourdough Carlmont Scot - pastrami, bacon, avocado & cream cheese There's not a lot of room to eat there so its almost a take-out spot only. Parking is 20 min on El Camino
(5)Kenneth N.
A solid sandwich spot with a great neighborhood feel. I've had the salami and turkey sandwiches and have liked the quality of all ingredients, including the sourdough rolls (Dutch Crunch is an abomination to God and Man). However, I implore Mr. Pickles to hollow out the rolls. Too much bread from the rolls ruins the sacred bread:filling ratio. Just a quick scoop or two and you will be golden, Pony Boy
(3)Kristen S.
One of the best sandwich shops I've been to. A little on the pricey side, but well worth it considering you leave with a sandwich the size of a small child. I like the Tom Tom - turkey, bacon & swiss on Dutch Crunch loaded up with veggies. Fresh, made right in front of you, by a few dudes who look like they've got the art of sandwich-making down pat. It's a tiny little joint, so at peak lunch hour be prepared to wait in a line that snakes out the door. Parking is not ideal - it's street parking on busy as hell El Camino. But it's all worth it! Trust me! Ingredients are fresh, delicious, and it's always great to support local businesses! Mr. Pickles is a bay area diamond in the rough :)
(4)Teresa B.
O.M.G. this place is so delicious! I was running errands around my bf's place and I really wanted a sandwich. I went here after looking at my fellow yelper's reviews and I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL! This is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Lets start from the beginning. THe restaurant is a small, tiny, walk in deli. Theres seating for like four people and it's crowded. However, the food makes up for all of that. They have about 20 specialty sandwiches and I heard each one is great. I ended up getting a tom tom (turkey, bacon, and swiss) on sourdough with everything on it. It's AMAZING. I took a bite and I had to come on here and yelp it...while i still eat. (this review is gonna take me an hour to write because im eating inbetween. hehe). Their pesto sauce is amazing..i want to brush my teeth with it (gross, but THAT good). So if you go there, ask for extra pesto. the sandwiches are about 8 dollars. the men that work there are all tatted up but they are super nice. They don't smile much, but hey, they're nice enough. When i got there, there was a line outside the door, but it's well worth the wait. They also have salads. It really is an amazing deli. in the end, its the food and the taste that matters.... and the taste alone gets 5 stars!

Biting into a sandwich from Mr. Pickles is a guaranteed party in your mouth. If you love the idea of juicy cold cuts surrounded by veggies, house made spreads, thick slices of cheese and engulfed in soft chewy bread, you will not be disappointed. I have been eating these sandwiches for years and honestly if I could I would eat them everyday! I have had many of the options on the menu but I stick to my usual, Turkey on dutch crunch (the most fantastic bread you can sadly only find in northern california) with jalapenos, peppers, their spicy sauce, lettuce, tomatoes and pepper jack cheese. It is a spicy creation that I could easily crawl into for days. The boys that work there are just that, boys. You have to take their attitudes with a grain of salt. San Mateo is not exactly NYC and if you work at Mr. Pickles apparently you think you are some kind of greek god. They will flirt with the pretty girls and chat with the party boys, its part of this small shop's charm, and yes it has always been like that. I am a firm believer that the original guys make the best sandwiches though, which could make me totally crazy or a lunatic, but if you get the chance have the guy with all the tattoos or the blonde one or the short mexican looking one with the shaped beard make yours!
(5)Mike B.
Born and raised in San Francisco, moved out to Colma in 2009 and discovered the burbs have some respectable sandwich places, namely Mr Pickles in Daly City. Love that place. Moved to San Mateo earlier this year and found a Mr Pickles 5 minutes from my house. I was pumped!!! And let down. This Mr Pickles should be ashamed of itself for not having a toaster oven. I asked for my usual House Combo on a soft roll, hot. The guy asked me if I wanted hot sauce. I said, no, I'd like my sandwich toasted. He said "OK". Then without asking me he put the meat/cheese stack INTO THE MICROWAVE and then slapped it on the untoasted bread. This isn't how it's done, dude.
(2)Alexandra I.
Ordered ahead and skipped the huge line that is always going out the door at Mr. Pickles because it is so good. I got the Veggie I think it was called on dutch crunch and it was great. Hit the spot. I can always count on Mr. Pickles for a solid sandwich.
(5)Patrick W.
it was delicious. it was giant. it was fast. it was lunch and dinner. can't beat that!
(5)Dan D.
Mr. Pickles is definitely a classic, great big deli style sandwiches, fairly nice/polite guys working there, some of them a little too cool for school and some of them amazingly nice and friendly. They all make a great sandwich and listen to your order. A LITTLE inconsistant at times but every sandwich can't be the same!
(4)Mike R.
Great sandwiches. The #22 Sandbagger (chicken breast with blue cheese and frank's hot sauce) is my favorite. It's messy but delicious! I have tried about 5 different sandwiches and they are always great. It can get crowded around lunchtime but they are very friendly and fast and deal with the rush well.
(5)Joe Riggs G.
Just plain and simple...Get any sandwich with Dutch Crunch and you'll be in heaven. I personally like the pastrami with extra peppers (#20 santa cruz). The place is small, not enough elbow room to dine in but the sandwich makes up for it! Tasty!!!!
(4)Sean H.
Oh Jesus Cristos. I cannot get enough of this place! The guys behind the counter are awesome. They're friendly, energetic, and sociable. The food is of fantastic quality, and its like crack. I am hooked. I eat here at least once every other week. (I dont want to burn out on it like I have so many other places.) The sandwiches are big, and they're FULL of juicy deliciousness. 5 star all the way!
(5)John S.
I like this place but I really wish they would wear gloves or be better about washing their hands. I've seen some not sanitary behavior - and I'm not usually picky about that. UPDATE: to their credit, the hygiene / safety is much better now. Maybe they saw my review. I'm comfortable eating here now, and they're great sandwiches.
(4)Dee T.
I love me a good sandwich, and when I am in the area, I make sure I stop by for one of their awesome corned beef sandwiches... Its so good and so big that I buy it for lunch and then save the rest for dinner. Way to be frugal!!! My doctors office is not too far from here so sometimes I just schedule an appointment so that I can go to Mr. Pickles to get me a sandwich... Luckily my hubby does not frequent this webpage, or I would be so busted...
(5)Lan N.
Awesome sandwiches! The people are friendly and the prices are reasonable for the amount of sandwich you get. Finishing a whole sandwich would put me in a food coma. There are only two small picnic tables crammed inside. You can gamble and hope a table opens up by the time you're finished ordering so you can enjoy your tasty sandwich right away or just grab it togo. Don't let the line going out the door intimidate you because the shop is tiny. If you are just outside the door, there may only be like 4-5 people in front of you.
(4)Cat C.
Yes, you can get a sandwich here without pickles & not be shunned! I even told the guy making my sandwich to give my friend my pickles, & he obliged. Mr. Pickle's is the first deli I've been to out of the three I have been a repeat customer of: Little Lucca & Lorenzo's. The Saint and BLT on dutch crunch are my faves. MMM! It's a toss up on who to give the better rating to. They take card unlike Little Lucca. Little Lucca's sandwiches are bigger though. Mr. Pickle's employees are friendlier, but Little Lucca's employees seem to assemble sandwiches quicker. Mr. Pickle's has a few more sandwiches on the menu that sounds appealing to me..but there's just something about Little Lucca. Sorry Mr. Pickle's, but a 4 is still good!
(4)James S.
I was told they would not take my to go order even though I gave them 20 minutes lead time because they were under staffed. Basically they were telling me that they didn't want my business. WRONG ANSWER BAD BUSINESS
(1)Anna S.
NUMMY!! In all honesty, I love me some sauce on anything I eat. The pesto spread is a very nice and unique touch for a tasty bready sandwichy treat. Personally, the sandwich spread from Little Lucca's is my favorite, but when I am in a "pickle", this sandwich will do. hehe Small mom and pop deli with the right stuff. Out of my way, so I only came here once or twice. I rediscovered how much I love the sandwhiches when I went to the other location in Los Gatos... Beware, the pesto may make you a little thirsty and your breath stink but really, who cares when your tummy is satisfied?
(4)Star C.
Today I ordered a sandwich called The Abbott #9 on sourdough roll. It's avocado, bacon, turkey, and their secret bunch of sauces :). It was around 12 pm lunch time and I was expecting a long line cuz they usually get super busy around that time. But to my surprise there was only 4 people ahead of me which 2 were just paying for their sandwiches. Yas! Good timing I would say on my part. I waited in line for about 10 mins and the guy who made my order was very nice and very quick. My mouth is burning as I write this review because of their secret bunch of sauces. Lol no complaints tho!
(4)Jennay K.
I usually love going to this place, but when I see that there's bugs in my food, then it leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. Employees should really wash their veggies thoroughly, and be a little more empathetic when a customer tells them a situation like this. The morale of the employees looks and feels nonexistent, which even bums me out when I eat inside the restaurant. All I can really say is this - Wash your damn lettuce!
(2)DA BADDEST B.
I really do love this place. My favorite is Padre Pride. But on my last visit, the guy rang me up and gave me the wrong change. I told him he shorted me $5 and he looked at me like I was crazy, looked over his receipt and said he didn't. I explained I gave him a $20 and he should've gave me a $10 bill and a dollar change ($11) but instead, he gave me a $5 bill and a buck ($6). He kinda smirked like I was trying to cheat him. I explained again and he kept saying he didn't. Finally I said, forget it and walked away. I didn't like his reaction like I was a scammer, and I still got jipped $5. A lil butthurt? maybe! I wasnt gonna sit there and raise hell over five bucks..I so could have, but I would've looked like the chick trippin over five bucks. So instead, I'm writing a review. And to be honest, I haven't been back to Mr. Pickles since. I don't live near it but I would drive passed 5 sandwich spots for them! But since that day, I'd just go to Sandwich Spot or Ike's in downtown San Mateo. It's closer to my spot anyways and I'm not gonna have some kid look at me like I'm a ghetto ass scam artist.
(1)Sebastian N.
We ordered for work again, and this time I came to my senses and went for a sandwich from the sandwich bar setup: roast beef on dutch crunch. I threw on some mayo, mustard, onions and tomato from the variety of fixings available to us. The result was pretty awesome. The "key takeaway" for me, which admittedly is not that insightful at all, is to stick to sandwiches at Mr. Pickles.
(4)Edwin R.
This location is fantastic especially for corporate orders. I have used them several times in the past when I did events and trainings for work. The plus side also is that they will deliver. Just remember to call Mr. Pickles a few days in advance, and they will get your sandwiches ready, all packed up in ready party trays!! They even provide everything from utensils to napkins to sauces. They really do a great job. Don't forget to order their homemade macaroni or potato salad. It's nom, nom good! Service here have always been fantastic even when they get super busy. They are located right across Safeway on El Camino Real. Street parking can be a challenge, but usually there is always one nearby. Until the, Cheers! :p
(4)Vineeta C.
Cool sandwich spot rite on El Camino...good luck getting street parking during lunch time though....came in for the first time and ordered a hot turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce which was absolutely delish they even have a spicy sauce that they put on which was perfect!! The sandwich was huge not your average subway sandwich this was big and very filling... The only con was that this sandwich and a bag of chips cost me 11.30 :/ deff on the pricey side. 3 stars for getting me in and out with in like 6 min service was on point by everyone they were very friendly and the place is small but cute and clean. A lil too pricey for my wallet but the sandwiches are good....enjoy you pickle lovers.
(3)Emily C.
Growing up in the area, this was always a go to spot with my friends after getting out of school. Even after all these years of graduating high school, I still love getting the same sandwich I did even back then. Simple but the dutch crutch is just amazing! I recommend the Serra padre, but i'm sure all of their sandwiches are great. Maybe only 4 small tables indoor as most people just pick up the sandwich and go somewhere else to eat. There is street parking or you can just park in the Mcdonalds next door-nobody will know and everybody does it!
(5)Nancy Z.
Unassuming hole in the wall sandwich shop. They are super fast and have a very extensive menu of sandwiches along with salads. I got their crusader (tuna sandwich) on a wheat roll. You get to add any/all the typical toppings for free: pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, etc. overall the sandwich is nice and toasted, solid. I was not a fan of their giant pickles however. Bit bland and tasted more like a sour cucumber... If you need a fast and no frill sandwich shop, check it out.
(3)Merica S.
...My name is Merica, and I have a pickle addiction :/ Even if the flavor profile becomes disagreeable, I still ask for extra pickles on any sandwich. The pickle addiction has strengthened immensely due to the accessibility of the Mr. Pickles sandwich shop. UGH. My prevailing 'go-to' when I am feeling like major bum status level 33 (a.k.a. I don't want to drive for food), since it is a mere four minute walk for a satisfying sandwich. You will need to hunt for street parking, as there is no private lot. What I appreciate is Mr. Pickles' allegation that his sandwiches are, 'Always Fresh, Always Delicious,' which is legit, because quality ingredients, that you can see and taste, are actually used. No wonder it's always jammed packed and the line goes through the door at this small sandwich shop. It is best to order, and then bounce. You can opt for one of their distinctive specialty sandwiches off the menu, which range from $7.99 to $8.49, or you can fully customize your own for $6.75. Your customized sandwich will contain errrrrthang: [mayo, mustard, their special garlic sauce, lettuce, tomato, pickles, peppers, and onions], unless you specific otherwise. You need to pay $0.75 extra for cheese, $2.00 extra for o0o...cream cheese fresh mozzarella (fancy sh**). There are other extras you can select for an extra charge: cranberry, avocado, mmm bacon, meat, double meat. * SELECT YO BREAD for any sandwich: Dutch crunch (customer fave), sweet, wheat and sourdough rolls, sliced wheat, or marbled rye. MY PERSONAL FAVE + JULIE BIRD sandwich [ $7.99 ] w/ pickles FTW. Don't judge. (Turkey, Avocado, sprouts, cucumber, cream cheese, and oil-vinegar) It's a beautiful thing---it just works. I adore the crisp crunch from the fresh sprouts, cucumber, and pickles, and I was entrapped by the lusciously creamy cream cheese and avocado. NEVER AGAIN + THE ABBOTT sandwich [ $7.99 ]w/ pickles. YEE. (Avocado, bacon, baja sauce, onion, turkey, and tomato) Ordered this sandwich based on a Yelper's provoking review. UH, no bueno for me. This sandwich was SOO damn DRY, that it was kinda unpleasant to swallow. If you like this combo, be sure to ask for a generous amount of baja sauce. They also offer homemade salads: Macaroni and potato, potato and egg and pesto pasta, green salad, chef's salad, chicken breast, tuna salad, chicken salad, spinach salad, and Caesar salad. They also have humongo cookies, chips, and a variety of cold beverages. CLASSIC sandwich shop. FREE DELIVERY?! There is a seven sandwich minimum for this lazy bum privilege, and your delivery order must be placed before 10 am. THERE'S A PICKLES POINT PROGRAM now you say?! Just found about this damn promo. I could've been accruing points all along! You have to register online on their website, and no, you can't earn points on past sandwich purchases. 1 DOLLA = 1 POINT, holla. So, if you're a naughty girl/boy down to get into a pickle, make your way to Mr. Pickles for their tempting specialty sandwiches, or for your own exclusive creation! They close at 5 pm, so you can't grab a late dinner here, for all you workaholics/late-shifters.
(4)Ken U.
Pros: Fresher alternative to McDonalds More variety than McDonalds Short wait Cons: Inconsistent Sandwiches Some employees skimp (seems almost intentionally) on ingredients Prices are high relative to what you get Employees look more depressed than the ones at McDonalds
(3)Nikki A.
Don't get the hype for this place.. It was mediocre at best. You can't go wrong with drenching everything in tons of sauce! I was expecting the rolls to be much better as everyone was raving about them. I was even disappointed in the cookies!!! I tried few different flavors and not only they weren't fresh, they didn't have much taste to them. They do also delivery! so if it's lunch time , I suggest you give that a try rather than waiting in line
(3)Salvatore P.
I'm giving two stars because the workers there are nice.the sandwiches there are over rated. The bread was hard like a rock and just didn't taste good.when I go to togos or sub way or even Quiznos I enjoy there food.im not knocking thus place out all I just expected a little differnt
(2)Al S.
When I'm in town and need a quik lunch, it's my go to. I like the meatball on sourdough. Staff is friendly and accurate.
(4)Sophia Y.
I've lived in San Mateo practically all my life. I went to Elementary School, Middle School AND High School right up the street from this sandwich shop and i've never been unil YEARS later when I ended up working literally right across the street from it (which is now). All I can say is damn... I've been missing out! I don't know if I'm biased because i love sandwiches, but this place is awesome (not to mention convenient). I got the Kiss My Angus with warm roast beef and a toasted Dutch Crunch and it was really good! They put the perfect amount of spread to flavor the sandwich and nothing beats a nice, big, meaty, and toasty sandwich! The sandwich is pretty big. Allllmost big enough for sharing. Overall, good selection, great sandwiches and quick service.
(5)Lily N.
This should really be a 3.5 for me. I got the abbot, which is turkey, bacon, avocado, tomato, their baja sauce and everything on it. A tasty sandwich? Yes because she put loads of baja sauce and pesto. Stuffed and made me full? Yup, there was a decent helping of turkey and bacon. Was the dutch crunch everything I hoped it would be? Oh, my god, yes. Amazingly chewy on the bottom and perfectly crunchy on top (it was only when I tried dutch crunch from other places that I realized you can mess up this type of bread up). The only thing I was reeeeally disappointed in was that she did not add ANY avocado whatsoever, almost to the point where I was going to bring it back to the counter to say she forgot. Then I realized she technically gave me a hard, end slice of avocado. Not the first time I've been shorted avocado here and by a different person, too! Sorry, just kind of disappointing given I paid over $8 for this sandwich that they skimp on the ingredients. Will be looking elsewhere for the ultimate deli sandwich. Fairly small seating and got here RIGHT before the 12 pm rush.
(3)Corina H.
Im not big on doing reviews but i have to leave one here for the Mr. Pickle located on El Camino Real in San Mateo, Ca.. I have been to several locations and by far the San Mateo location has made the best sandwiches.. The employees work together and get orders processed not only in an efficient amount of time but also your order is correct once you get it.. There is nothing more annoying than having to go back because they added or forgot to add something to your sandwich. Today i went to the Pleasanton, Ca location and ordered the exact same sandwich and there was no comparison. Todays sandwich i give 2 for effort because there was absolutely no flavor, and it was a reminder of eating a cardboard box,,,, bllaaahhhh.. Wasted money... San Mateo keep it up you guys are doing a great job!!!
(5)dan t.
Decent sandwiches but not worth $9. The last 2 times i been here they had no white rolls?. Wth? Your a deli you should have everything fresh daily. Who runs out of bread, the main part of a sandwich?? Safeway probably has similar sandwiches for less.
(2)jennifer s.
This place was beyond 5 stars. Amazing. I can't wait to move to San Mateo, I will be in here all the time!
(5)Kellie K.
We just left after picking up lunch to go and I can't believe how bad every aspect was. The guy working in the shop was sarcastic, the sandwich tiny with a thin piece of meat, the potato salad had a green cast to it and the little container of pasta salad liked like someone had opened it and eaten some as it was half full. I didn't think it was possible to have a bad experience getting a sandwich but this was bottom of the barrel all around.
(1)Anita H.
Decent sandwiches. it satisfies my deli sammie craving. I only got a turkey sandwich (i asked for avocado but didnt get it, but was in a hurry so ate the sandwich anyway). next time i will try their specialty ones.
(3)Katrina J.
I went to Borel and Aragon but I was such a picker eater back then I didn't even like sandwiches. I've only recently started coming here and it's one of my go-to lunch spots since I work down the street. There's usually a line out the door but the wait isn't really too long - the place is small so I think the line seems bigger than it is. I get a half size #4 (Tom Tom: turkey, bacon and swiss cheese) on dutch crunch every time. I get "everything" but no mustard, no tomato and no onions. Everything includes - mayo, mustard, garlic sauce, lettuce, tomato, pickles, peppers and onions.
(4)Lani S.
The employees here seem almost annoyed when I walked. Like they want to say "What the f*** do you want." There were no other guests there so how busy can you really be... Ummm, hello? You're working in the service and hospitality industry. A smile and a "How is your day so far" really goes a long way.. instead of having to awkwardly stare at the walls while I wait for my mediocre sandwich.

Great service and subs! I got a #3 Tony Soprano and #22 Sandbagger. It was raining outside and not only did they let me bring my dog in and give her water but they wrapped my sandwiches exactly as I asked to keep them dry. I got the dutch crunch and it was so fresh. The sub was delicious but not spicy as promised even when I asked for extra sauce. The shop was clean, people friendly, and sandwiches legit. Just the right amount of everything. It was $19.26 for two subs and a water. I'll need to go back again and eat fresh before comparing to Ike's and Sandwich shop.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! They still have a picture of me and my friend from middle school on their wall =) This is a childhood place that I've been going to while I still resided in San Mateo. Now that I live in the East Bay, I wish they opened a shop on this side. No deli out here is as good and authentic as Mr. Pickles. Something about their dutch crunch chicken salad sandwich brings back all the good things in life. I can literally lose myself in the greatness of the sandwiches. If you want a simple yet delicious deli sandwich, I highly recommend this place!!! Oh how I miss Mr. Pickles very much, I might even have to make a trip now that I think of it.

What happened??? This used to be my favorite sandwich spot in San Mateo, now it barely makes the top 5. Went two weeks ago and ordered 3 sandwiches. I knew when the women only asked what I wanted once, I might be in for a disappointment. I ordered a House Combo, ended up with a turkey. Got my 6 year old a turkey and cheese, got a turkey no cheese. Thankfully she got my wife's right. Went in last week and there wasn't anyone else there. Stood for 10 minutes before anyone bothered to acknowledge me. It was clear the girl at register didn't want to make a sandwich. Once she did, she started complaining about how gross the work station was. I don't want to hear the word gross from someone preparing food. Sandwich was okay, but took forever.

Ive driven by this place so many times, looking at the totally baked looking pickle mascot dude. I've been to a number of other locales and I'd have to say this one is a bit more cramped than the others. You get in, look at the board, order sandwich and go elsewhere as there's really not a lot of seating options. The Hillsdale Knight - black angus roast beef, hickory smoked ham, horseradish, provolone, avocado & the Bearcat - black angus roast beef with bbq sauce & melted cheddar cheese, are the go tos. Lines can get long and as I said, it's small so take your grub to the park nearby to enjoy

Excellent sandwiches, staff is relatively friendly. Only real complaint is that the sandwich seeped through their wrapping after about 20 minutes, so I will need to ask for less sauce/condiments next time -_-

My $8 "Carlmont Scot" (pastrami, bacon, avocado) was delicious!

Before you think this is just another sandwich shop, let me say, it's not really... I went here with a friend on a Friday for lunch. We got there around 11:45, and there were only about three people ahead of us. We got lucky with parking, and parked on the street just two stores away! I got The Abbott on their dutch crunch bread because I heard it was unlike any other dutch crunch. I'm not the biggest fan of spicyness, and since this sandwich comes with their Baja sauce as a fixing, I asked them to just go light on the sauce. I also added lettuce and tomato. They make the sandwich in front of you, which is pretty standard. My friend and I ate there, since there were open tables. The place only seats about six people. For the size of the sandwich (it's slightly shorter in length compared to a Subway footlong, but almost twice the height), the price was definitely worth it. Their sandwiches were around $8 (with tax and no extra addings). My sandwich was sooooo good! The Baja sauce gave just a tiny kick, and I can only imagine how much spicier it would've been if I didn't go light in the sauce. Each bite had a crunch to it, that was either the bread or the bacon (or both!) They gave a generous portion of turkey that was about an inch thick, folded. I didn't want to go into food coma, so I ate half of the sandwich for lunch and saved the other half for later. Ate the second half around 3, and it was just as good. The line picked up a bit around 12, so you may have to be prepared to wait if you get there around that time. But it's definitely a place to go to, and might make it one of my go-to lunch places next time I'm in the area.

The Tony Soprano! Back when I lived and worked in the Bay Area, I used to grab lunch at two places regularly. One of them was Mr. Pickle's. So, on my most recent trip back, I had to grab lunch there for old time's sake. Same parking situation. The shop is right on El Camino so if it's busy, good luck with parking. When it was really busy, I would just park at McDonald's and walk. I lucked out this time around - pulled up right in front. The inside is just as small as it was before. The line was just as long as I remember. Long not because service is slow - it's because everything is made to order. Nothing premade that needs to be heated up or unwrapped. Stand in line - decide on what you want, pay and wait for your order. Not a lot of seating but I usually grabbed lunch and went off somewhere to eat. Lots of parks nearby as well as the water - if you don't mind the brown waters of the San Francisco bay as your backdrop. The sandwhich was just as good as I remember. Lots of meat - awesome bread (sourdough) and just the right amount of condiments. Place is still around as it seems it's consistent. Consistently tasty that is.

Food is alright, not out of bound. It is certainly better than sandwich chains. However, I give 2 stars because of customer service. The staff is nice enough but they messed up my order every time. Every time. There are a lot of condiments in their sandwich, and I think it's understandable for me to pick which ones I like in my sandwich and which ones I don't. They never get it right. Yes, for others who like everything in their sandwich, it won't be an issue I'm sure. But for me who only like to have 3 - 4 things, you'll be disappointed. They don't try to remember your preference, that simple.

My friends really like this place and the workers were super nice, but my first visit was kind of meh. I got the Tuscan which tasted... strange. The balsamic sauce tasted oddly alcoholic and each bite of the sandwich was ~66.7% bread. I am usually indifferent about whole wheat, but I didn't like the bread much. The description of the sandwich sounded great, but the tastes of all the ingredients together were out of balance. IMHO Mr. Pickles cut the tomatoes into strips before loading up the sandwich, and use thinner wheat rolls.
(2)Steven D.
I'm gonna give this place the 5 stars they deserve. Every single sandwich I get from these guys is awesome. (plus its less than a mile from my house!) I l always seem to get the hot pastrami on dutch crunch with extra peppers- aka The Maxine. Now that is a sandwich. Fresh and delicious! YUMMY!! As for parking- which totally bites the big one- I usually just park in the McDonald's lot or on Barneson and walk over. not bad. Summer is here. Time to grab a sammy from Mr Pickles and go have a picnic!!! YEAH!
(5)Jordan C.
A damn good sandwich. Went today to pick it up, the line stretched out the door but moved very quickly. I got a great chicken sandwich with bacon, avocado and cheese. Their staff are friendly, and the ingredients are top notch. The cooked chicken breast they use is very very tender and tasty. Way better than most sandwich shops.

I've been coming to Mr Pickles for nearly 18 years. I'm a big fan of their sandwiches. I went in today for the first time in about a year. A blonde girl helped me, I got my sandwich and was out in about 15 min.. and the sandwich was delicious by the way. However, I had to comment about the rude customer service. Mr Pickles used to hire really nice genuine people. It seems now they have people who are just there because they're getting paid, it's very clear that they don't want to be there, or the girl who helped me anyways. I was very disappointed, I've almost always had a good experience going in there until today. I'm definitely going to cut down my business unless I see that good old customer service that mr pickles is known for. Also, Buyer Beware: If you're thinking about asking them to heat up your sandwich, just do it yourself. They charge extra just to throw it in the microwave for a few seconds. They also won't tell you that they charge extra for it until right when you're about to pay, so you're pretty much screwed into paying it. Great Sandwiches, Poor Customer Service, I'm unhappy to see that Mr Pickles expectations on customer service are declining.
(3)Jonathon C.
over all great sandwiches, to big for me to finish but still quit amazing!
(5)Christine L.
Need a sandwich and in a hurry? If you can manage to find street parking get yourself to Mr. Pickle's. Yes, the pickles here are actually good. The sandwiches are generous without getting obnoxiously big. I ordered The Tuscan, which is basically a margherita pizza (including sauce) with balsamic vinegar and between two slices of bread. It was messy, but it hit the spot on my vegetarian day. I probably could have split out the sandwich for two days if I wasn't so hungry.
(3)Amanda B.
Obviously the food is good but customer service not so much. They dont smile nor look you in the eyes. The whole staff should be replaced.
(2)Dave N.
The Maxine (Mr Pickles' take on a reuben) is also a winner. In general, these sandwiches are loaded, drippy, and very messy to eat. And they're also delicious.
(5)Ren L.
I stopped by here over the weekend because I was craving a sandwich. I ordered The Saint, which was Chicken Breast, Honey Mustard, and Melted Cheese. Though it was delicious, I couldn't help but notice that it was dripping a whole lot. But that didn't cause too much of an issue, but I did enjoy it overall. I'd come back on an empty stomach and no guilt.

Earlier today I stopped by a coworkers office. He was eating a salami sandwich from Espostos deli near our office. The sandwich looked good with about half an inch of salami in it. It got me craving a salami sandwich. I called in an order to Mr Pickles for a salami on french roll with only mayo and lettuce. When i got back to my office and unwrapped my sandwich you could barely find any salami ... maybe an eight of inch. Nice bread and lettuce sandwich... no more Mr Pickles for me. Too many other places to choose from.

A day on the road taking care of business. We were in the mood for a deli sandwich!!! We decided to go with the hot pastrami on dutch crunch and an ice cold root beer. WINNER!!! A satisfying meal. Fueled for a productive afternoon/evening. Usually parking is a pain (usually just park in the McDonald's lot or on Barneson), however, we lucked out today. A great sandwich place to pick up and head to the beach!! :)

I really don't understand what all the hype is about... first of all it's completely not accessible to anyone in a wheelchair. There are steps leading up to the shop, and no other way in... unacceptable. However, luckily, my son was with me and he was able to go in and pick up the sandwiches for us. I ordered the number 25 Julie Bird which was just okay. The sandwich was huge, which made it really difficult eat, the good thing was I had breakfast for the morning :-) my boyfriend ordered the Hillsdale Knight which was just so-so, and my son ordered a basic turkey sandwich, which was also just so-so. The bread was really dry, I barely tasted the vinegar and oil, and got a crap load of Turkey, which was great, However it was really really salty (yes I know it's silly Because it is deli meat), And I really want to have a sandwich that is not overpowered by all of the meat. Can't say I will crave to go back...

I've missed delis like this that I would frequent when I lived in SLO. I haven't tried looking for sandwich shops in San Jose, now that I'm back in the South Bay, but my coworker and I stopped by Mr. Pickle's on the way to our meeting in San Mateo. I absolutely love sandwiches, and I was happy that Mr. Pickle's did not disappoint me. I got the #9 on a wheat roll (sandwich contained bacon, turkey, cheese, lettuce, avocado, and so on). I could only finish one half. Staff is very friendly. However the place is small. There were only a couple small tables and chairs. It's more of a to-go kind of place. We wanted to eat there but all the seats were occupied by a group of 5 kids. San Mateo's a little far to keep going back to the San Mateo location, but I definitely want to try more of their sandwiches, but probably at closer locations.
(4)Christina W.
Sandwhich shop is awesome! I would recommend this place to anybody wanting a quick and filling lunch.
(4)Savanna F.
I live a couple streets away so I use to come here a lot. Over the years I've discovered at least 6 delis I would prefer over this place. 1. The deli is way too small, half the time the line is out the door 2. I'm pretty sure they have something against girls working here because over the past couple years I've never seen a girl working here (I may be wrong but it's something I noticed) 3. Their bread isn't the greatest and neither is their meat. Just overall a very bland sandwich I don't know why this deli gets all the hype, I'd prefer sandwich spot over this place any day.
(1)Antoine M.
one of my favorite sandwich places Pros: Cheap friendly staff that always makes it takes good and right I have never had a bad sandwich here great prices cons: no where to sit, parking is hard as well because the place is on el camino and most of the time I park at mcdonalds, which your not supposed to do
(5)Lindsey O.
A legit sandwich shop to get a lunch-to-go in downtown San Mateo! Nothing fancy, just good sandwiches. Isn't that enough for a weekday lunch spot while at work?
(4)Justin G.
Good SANDwICH (#7) rocks ummmm a little pricey tho but still pretty good
(4)Lexie M.
I continue to be a fan of this small, original Mr. Pickles shop. The best sandwiches come out of this tight space! Everything is always fresh and tasty. The guys who work here are friendly (and typically good looking!) They have some tasty specialty sandwiches similar to Ike's. Parking can be a bit of a headache considering it's along one of the most congested parts of El Camino. I like this place as a pick up sandwich spot and not for sitting down. There's only 2 small tables along a sidewall and it's uncomfortable considering how many people come in and out of here. I love these sandwiches and am tempted to get one every time I drive by :-) Great small business. New Belmont location has better seating, but this place is sufficient enough if you plan on just picking up. You can also call-in your order. Don't forget to grab a bag of kettle chips while your at it!
(5)Suyog D.
A great hole in the wall place for sandwiches. Loved the veggie options, quick service and fresh veggies. My wife ordered sandwich over Dutch roll and it was ok but that is because I generally don't like dutch roll. My sourdough sandwich was delicious.
(5)A B.
Great value for the money - I'm going there again. They do their basics right and well, are pretty good at what they do. Had the veggie sandwich there, and no - I wasn't let down at all. Going back their soon enough!

I have been here a handful of times over the past decade and a half and have never really been satisfied. I should mention that I really wanted to like this place due to all of the hype from fellow locals. Most recently, I came in for lunch and ordered a roast beef sandwich with spicy BBQ sauce and horseradish on Dutch crunch. The person who took my order and constructed my sandwich was friendly, albeit distracted and forgetful (I had to repeat my order twice). When I went to pay, I asked for a glass of water, and the girl working the register informed me that they don't have cups for water, and that I had to buy a bottled water. The sandwich itself came out cold and more or less flavorless. I couldn't taste any of the BBQ or horseradish that I added to it. I don't expect much from a chain sandwich place, but the mediocre food plus the somewhat poor service means I will not be coming back. Especially considering that my sandwich, bottled water, and bag of chips cost me about eleven bucks - for that kind of dough it would have been easy for me to get a hot meal just about anywhere else in San Mateo.
(2)Jackson B.
I live in the neighborhood near this restaurant, and I absolutely love this place! It is very convenient and the sandwiches are delicious! They are a bit pricey, but it is well worth the cost. A personal favorite of mine is the #4, the Tom Tom. The Dutch Crunch bread is always fresh and delicious and the bacon is always warmed up. Sometimes there is a bit of a line, but calling ahead saves a lot of time, and when you arrive the sandwiches is immediately ready and all you have to do is pay. This is a great hole in the wall sandwich stop, and if your ever in the vicinity, make sure to stop by for a delicious sandwich!
(5)Brittany P.
YUMM!!! Get the dutch crunch bread, it's probably the greatest invention and for some reason particular to Northern California. So many of these sandwiches are great and creative. The sandwiches are a pretty big portion, splitting is a great option for those that like to share.
(5)Jack S.
Tom Tom sandwich is quite good. Great sourdough. The dutch crunch is also a winner and I've been getting it exclusively since I gave it a try. The folks there are terrific.
(5)Christine V.
Mr. Pickles rocks! Super small little spot but the sandwiches are fresh and delicious. Would drive the 15 min from my house just to eat there. :)
(4)Sharon B.
I love their sandwiches. I love the owners. I love their service. I love everything about this place. I call in, I come in, the sandwiches are ready. I usually order the Tom Tom, which is a turkey BLT. It is just perfect with their garlic sauce. It's crispy, saucy, meaty, and YUMMY.

I have missed going to this place every day after high school! Finally I decided to come back and try it out after all these years. My dad decided to drive and we quickly found it exactly where I remembered it to be. When I went in the old smell infiltrated the air. I felt like I was back in High School. The next problem I had was to find the sandwich which I used to order, but for some reason I couldn't figure out which sandwiches had pesto if any of them. Finally i went for Padre's Pride which sounded pretty familiar and voila I didn't realize that they put pesto and a garlic sauce in all the sandwiches. Of course the best choice of bread is Dutch Crunch. They never make them in LA like this. After waiting for a few minutes I receive my enormous sandwich. WOW when I made the first bight I was shocked. YES Mr. Pickle's still got it and I couldn't stop eating the sandwich until I had to give it back to my dad. It's that good and will always be! I still think Padre's Pride is the best sandwich :) Until we meet again when I'm in town next time!
(5)K L.
This rating is not so much for the food as it is the fact that they raised their prices but left up the menu with the old prices. At least they should either cover the old prices with slips of paper showing the new prices or if that is too much work, then put up a general piece of paper on the menu board saying that some items are now priced higher. There is no warning anywhere until after your food has been custom-made and given to you. Certainly this must go against some kind of rule, or at least ethics.

I've been going here on average 3 days a week since I started working down the peninsula last year, and for the most part this place has been stellar. healthy servings of meat, incredible sourdough bread, perfect balance of g-sauce and pesto sauce.... BUT: the last weeks have been a little disappointing. "Where's the beef?" the amount of meat on sandwiches has been nearly cut in half (and i've been ordering the same exact basic sandwich for months) Even if they named a sandwich after something other than my rival high schools' mascots I'd probably not let it slide (however, it'd be nice to see a Wildcat up there, just saying). I love shooting the $#!% with you guys in the afternoons and watching the tv on hot days, love the Vanilla Coke and the plentiful street parking. So one more shot to fix that meat issue, or it's off to Little Lucca's or Specialties (who, granted, don't have as good sauces, or bread, but with my lunch time climbing sessions at Planet Granite, I gotta get more than dough).
(3)Laurisa C.
First meal when my husband and I moved to SM a few weeks ago; we were starving after the move, it was close by and had good ratings on Yelp. The sandwiches are absolutely DELICIOUS and the people serving us were the nicest ever! The sandwiches are huge so I was able to eat half for lunch and save the rest for later. You consistently see a line out the door and it's well worth the wait! :) We definitely plan to become regulars here.
(5)G. R.
The people were here were nice but the sandwiches were NOT worth $8 each. I asked for my sandwiches toasted and they must have microwaved them instead because the rolls were VERY rubbery like a dog's chew toy. The quantity of filling was lacking too - not worthy of the $8 price tag. There are several other better choices in the area at this price or less so I likely won't be back...
(2)Greg L.
Girthy, tasty sandwiches at a good price. What more can you ask for? The gf got the Slickster: hot turkey, cheese of your choice, and cranberry sauce ($7.49) while I got the Carlmont Scot: pastrami, bacon, avocado, and cream cheese (which I subbed out for pepper jack instead) ($7.99). They are definitely generous with the meats, and they give an appropriate amount of spread to add good flavor without getting your sandwich overly soggy. You have to get the "G" Sauce, a tasty garlic spread that might leave your breath a little heavy afterwards, but it's definitely worth it. The line looks a little intimidating when it goes out the door, but the wait really wasn't too bad, maybe 15 minutes max. The guys making the sandwiches are super chill, even chatting with me while my sandwich was getting made. They are very friendly, and at the same time very efficient at getting orders out in an expedient manner. So far, this is my favorite sandwich spot in the middle of the peninsula.
